If you want fresh, authentic Jamaican food, Brawta in Halifax, Pizza Corner, is the place to go. Everything is absolutely delicious—jerk chicken, fried chicken, curry chicken, oxtail, curry goat… you name it, they nail it. The mac and cheese is out of this world.
Having traveled all over Canada, I can honestly say I’ve never had Jamaican food this good anywhere else. The owners should be incredibly proud—they have a true gem on their hands.
I’m also amazed at how this restaurant goes outside the box, incorporating East Coast Canadian seafood into their menu as specials, giving a unique Jamaican twist to maritime flavors. Well done!
And the beef patties? Homemade, packed with flavor, and crafted from a secret recipe that deserves to be shared with the world.
Thank you, Brawta, for giving me a taste of Jamaica right here in Halifax. Absolutely divine.

Service was inattentive - it looked like just one person cooking and doing cash, so I am willing to give it a pass. But I was the only person there and had to ring the bell a few times for service.
I ordered the jerk chicken, which I usually really enjoy. There was hardly any meat. It was all bones. Even worse , when I bit into a piece of meat, it was full of bone shards. I had to spit out most of it, until I gave up. And the chicken was tough. This food needs some love put right back in it.

Caribbean person here! Here's some advice, if you walk into a Jamaican take out spot and there aren't any Jamaicans or Caribbean people serving you, then should probably walk out. Authenticity is important and as in this case it would be wise to head the other way. Imagine......

For the price you pay the jerk chicken isn't very good, plus the portions are small. Taste nothing like authentic jerk chicken I've had back in Jamaica.

Been here twice delicious both times. It takes a while for the food to be ready and the seating is not very comfy but it’s worth the wait

Not what we expected!
The portions were very tiny for the price. Jerk pork was dry and the plantains seemed a bit overdone. Sorry but won’t be going back. Quite disappointed as we were looking forward to a nice Jamaican meal tonight.

One of our absolute favourite stops on the boardwalk! The Jamaican patties are fresh, flaky, and full of flavour – some of the best we’ve had. The Jerk Chicken Mac and Cheese and Tofu Mac and Cheese were both standouts too: spicy, cheesy, and packed with bold flavour. On top of the amazing food, the lady working there was so incredibly kind and hardworking, which made the whole experience even better.

This is definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area and craving authentic, comforting Jamaican eats!

Visiting from the US and got to try Jamaican food here for the first time.

Staff was helpful and friendly.

I got the Jerk Chicken, Festivals and Oxtail Plate. Jerk chicken was flavorful and moist, not too spicy. Festivals weren’t something I was aware of but very delicious, crusty outside, soft inside, sweet and savory. Oxtail over the rice and peas was delicious and very filling, good portion.

They did forget my spicy sauce but that done at take away from how good everything was. Hoping I can go again before I go home.

I really tried to give this place a chance, but after a few bad experiences, I’m done, especially with the serious health concerns. The worst was today: I was served raw chicken (photo attached). That’s just not okay and honestly dangerous. I’m genuinely hoping I don’t get seriously sick.

And it’s not just a one-time thing. A friend of mine actually found a staple in his food once, which is wild.

Another time, they forgot part of my order (the beef patties), which was annoying, but honestly feels minor compared to the safety issues.

I get that mistakes happen, but this many serious ones make it clear there’s zero quality control. I won’t be ordering again, and I’d seriously think twice if you’re considering it. Wish I could give 0 stars.
