Good food, good cocktails, but certainly overpriced compared to other restaurants in Halifax. We had the 5 service Valentine's menu at 115$ per person. The first service was ONE oyster per person, the second service was nice, even if it had to be shared. Main courses were tasty, and desert had to be shared (really?). It was very noisy and the choice of wines was very limited.

I am an intense foodie, super enjoy cooking goodness as well, and must say how this little Halifax spot exceeded all expectations. Visiting my daughter for the holidays, she booked us in for cocktails and dinner Dec. 23rd.
At the first bite of the miso dressed radicchio salad with pralined nuts I had to pause - the fullness of flavours, balance of textures and acids wrapped with umami made this dish stand out far beyond the menu's ingredients/description.
The subsequent sharing plates continued the experience and tastebud dance:
Braised fennel halves with a smear of Toum, roasted red pepper, olives + blew the simplistic description away.
Seared Cod fillet served with romesco green pepper confit, herb mélange & toasted almonds - continued to defy description and impressively delightt the palate!
Signature cocktails, also outside the usual.
Dessert paled not - red wine poached pear slices and seasoed with mulling spices topped a dark chocolate torte wedge, accompanied by the most warmly grounded Peppermint tea.
So many usual ingredients are masterfully combined with genius and chefery, this review cannot do justice to this restaurant.

Our visit to Field Guide was a mixed experience. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, which we appreciated. However, there were several areas where the experience fell short. We were there for almost three hours and managed to get drink service only twice. Our meals were served with significant delays, and the pork belly arrived dry and overcooked. Just as the food was served, we were informed we had ten minutes to finish as our table was needed for another group, which was quite disappointing.
Additionally, the venue seems to be operating over its capacity, as we found ourselves having to climb over chairs to move around. The servings were smaller than expected and not quite the shareable experience as advertised. We even ended up going to another restaurant afterward as we were still hungry.
I believe feedback is essential for improving service, and I hope management considers these aspects seriously without resorting to personal unsubstantiated attacks as I've seen this restaurant do with others. Constructive criticism can help enhance customers experience and should be seen as an opportunity for growth

If you’re going to go, i recommend going for bevs and atmosphere > food (particularly for my vegetarian girlies). Also, quite pricey. However, the staff was INCREDIBLE. I was there Saturday and the waitresses were very kind and gave great recommendations. The man who came to explain our drinks was knowledgeable and funny. Also, at least at Christmas, make a reservation!!!

We didn't think to make a reservation but they were able to accommodate our party of 4 at the bar - dining there added some extra fun to the night as we got the chat with staff while they made drinks. Great crew of folks working here for sure. Food was outstanding and we cannot wait to go back for the next menu. In particular the tuna crudo, trout and gnocchi blew us away. Also the pink flamingos are everything.

Fantastic dining experience at Field Guide! We had the 6-course tasting menu to share. Every dish was refined, seasonal, and beautifully balanced. The cocktails were excellent, and sitting at the bar made it even better: we could chat with the friendly bartender and watch the chef at work. The whole team is small but incredibly organized, and service was smooth and attentive. They even adapted the menu for my lactose intolerance, which I really appreciated. Cozy atmosphere, great food, highly recommend!

First place we ate when we arrived in Halifax for an anniversary trip. Absolutely did not disappoint! Has great service and enjoyed sharing our plates. We had haddock, beef tartar and woldorf salad. I think the haddock was by far my favourite of the night. Tangy and sweet with a perfectly cooked fillet. Yum!

I had a great experience here with cocktails and tapas!! My servers (Shay and Char I think) were so knowledgeable and friendly! I got to try a special dish that evening made with fresh tomatoes from a local market made by Cam and Sam in the kitchen. The open kitchen sitting at the bar was super fun and I loved being able to interact with the skilled cooks who made my food. Makes for a personable dining experience especially as a solo traveller!
Absolutely fantastic in every aspect! The attention to detail shows through on each dish and drink. The open kitchen is an awesome experience if you get to sit at the bar. Oysters were amazing, the gnocchi was terrific, prawn toast was a not miss. Our bartender Pat was great and ALL of his drinks were terrific, dont miss this place!
