Oh wow, what to say about the Press Gang. This place is so full of history, and so well maintained to its historic past. The chef and his team are amazing, and if given the opportunity take the time to Thank them because what they do both in getting meals to their clientele plus prepare amazing dishes they are as good as they get.
We tried a walk in on our arrival to Halifax while we were there for a short holiday, they were full and booked heavily. Luckily the host talked us into coming back for a late evening reservation, amazing, absolutely amazing. Great meals, great service, really incredible atmosphere. Enjoyed it so much we came back at the end of our holiday. Started with something amazing and finished that way as well. Higher budget restaurant than we are accustomed to but if in Halifax again guaranteed we are coming back.
Thank you to everyone at The Press Gang for a couple very memorable evenings.

Dined solo at the bar. Sampled a dozen oysters and they were fantastic. Fresh, briny, sweet and tender. Also had the Seafood Risotto which was excellent. The seafood is placed on top of the risotto so it’s cooked fresh and retains its flavor and texture. Both bar tenders were wonderful. Could not ask for a better meal. Will bring my wife next time I’m in Halifax.

Just enjoyed a superb dinner of the signature seafood risotto along with tuna tartar, raw and baked oysters. The dishes were well presented, fresh tasting, and flavourfully delicious. Solid and professional service from our server Leandre. The ambiance of a historic tavern dating from the 1750's along with fun Nova Scotian music from a live duo, made for a wonderful 5-star experience. Highly recommended.

Oh my goodness! From the moment we walked in the door we knew we would have a wonderful evening! The old building with its rock interior and low beams was reminiscent of a past time. We were seated in a quiet little corner and there were many of those to enjoy a quiet meal or more open spaces to enjoy your time with friends.

I had the Coquille St. Jacques . It was the best I’ve ever had. Flavourful and filling. The scallops were huge! My husband’s seafood chowder was among the best we’ve ever had.

We would highly recommend The Press Gang for a spectacular seafood meal in Halifax.

My wife says she would give The Press Gang 6 out of 5 stars if she could, but that's just because she had scallops (the amazing Coquille St. Jacques). My chowder was incredible, with a smokey taste that was unique. This was a special treat, and should be a must visit in Halifax.

The best oysters I have ever had and by some distance. Excellent bar staff. Cool spot.

One of the best, old classic restaurants in Halifax.

Absolutely outstanding meal. I loved the restaurant from the moment I walked through the doors. The decor and ambiance was perfectly themed, my fiance and I couldn't stop looking around at all the little features and nautical decor. We went for oysters, but stayed and had the duck and the swordfish. Both were absolutely amazing. Our server was also great. She gave us a bit of history on the building, and made the evening even more enjoyable. And dessert being on the house, since it was my fiancé's birthday, was a lovely surprise. Would highly recommend. We cannot wait to come back!

Wife and I went for the first time for our 18th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. First out table was selected for us by our waiter in a quiet little nook as he knew it was our anniversary. We ordered drinks and had a nice little glass of bubbly one the house. We ordered an appetizer of calamari which was cooked beautifully and then had the lamb shank and mushroom pappardelle which we both cleaned our plates of. Then we had some of the best desserts we have had in Halifax there flourless chocolate espresso cake, to die for. Shout out to our server Mitch in the fish shirt thank you so much for a wonderful time.

I highly recomend the Press Gang. The food was delicous. Our server Mick was on his "A" game. He must of passed by our table 15 times keeping an eye on us and making sure we didn't have a want for anything.

The appetizers were fantastic. My seafood risotto was also very good. My two dining companions had the halibut but said it was overcooked, although they enjoyed the sauce with it. They were not very impressed. And it was such an expensive dish..... you expect it to be done correctly.

I'm a hard grader, it has to be near perfect to get a 5 out of me. My lamb was a hair overcooked but still tender. The inside of the place is made with parts from an old sailing ship. I have been other times and the food was a little better. We were there on a Wednesday so that may have had something to do with it.
