Lovely experience, largely in part because of our server Mick, who gave excellent recommendations. Great ambience, oysters and seafood.
We booked a dinner for our 25th anniversary and we ended up being spoiled from the beginning. Service, food and atmosphere are excellent. It is a little pricier but you get what you pay for!
Terrific cuisine in beautiful, historic dining rooms. You've got to try the torched oysters appetizer and the memorably delicious chowder, but actually everything we had was wonderful.
Great experience. Had been a long time since the last we were there and it will not be so long for the next time.
Dining at the Press Gang was like stepping back into the past - the stone walls, candlelight and architectural features were museum like. Seldom does a restaurant exceed (high) expectations! We were tucked into a small snug that was evidently a pantry at one time, right near the fireplace - very private and romantic. The food was amazing , and our server Mick was professional, knowledgeable and courteous. We had a wonderful evening and cannot recommend it highly enough.... cannot wait to visit Halifax and the Press Gang again.
This was the most amazing eating experience we had in Halifax! The torched oysters are not to be missed! Attentive, caring and excellent servers. If you're looking for a fine dining experience, this is the place!
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. The server was extremely knowledgeable and able to advise on food choices and drink pairings. Prices are on the high side, but no regrets.
Great place for seafood in Halifax. Options for steak are available as well and very good.
It was very very good. Quiet place with lots of choices for food and the service was excellent.
Booked this based on ratings while on vacation in Halifax. One of the two mains ordered was quite good, but the whole lobster had a really tough tail. Not what was expected given the prices. Cocktails were a little bland. Our waitress was nice, but we were seated in the depths of the restaurant near the kitchen, in what turned out to be a very underlit, overly warm, still space. What we'd expected to be historical and charming was musty and subterranean. As we exited, there were some lovely looking tables on the ground level, where there was also airflow. Service was good.

It was our second time visiting the press gang, and we were so excited to go back. Our server gave great recommendations and was always around when we needed him and anticipated all of our needs ahead of time. The food was amazing as always, and we can't wait for our next visit.
This place was good, I went there twice in my five days in Halifax. It's located in an old historic building and has amazing ambiance and atmosphere; truly wonderful. Service is very polite and attentive. The food is exceptional, but the standout thing are the oysters. They get a new shipment every day and those are the freshest and tastiest oysters I ever had. They also have an impressive collection of spirits, more than 100 different single malt whiskeys. A gem of a restaurant
Exceptionally fresh oysters and great, professional service. Excellent vibe in the restaurant.
Great atmosphere, excellent choices on menu..we had the lamb and lobster boil.. waitress was lovely and very knowledgeable about the history of the building and where the oysters came from .. we weren't rushed and had a wonderful evening.. highly recommend
The execution and ingredients were truly outstanding! Being in one of the oldest buildings created such a warm and inviting atmosphere, making the experience even more delightful. Given the exceptional quality of the food and the charming venue, the price is incredible value. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience! You're in for a treat!
