If you love fresh local oysters, you won't want to miss The Press Gang. If you don't already love oysters, The Press Gang may make a convert of you. Impeccably fresh, each type with its distinctive texture and flavor, served with 3 different accompaniments — cocktail sauce, mignonette and horseradish. The service was exceptionally good, cocktails both classic and non-alcoholic were well crafted, and the roast halibut was moist and delicious.
Second oldest building in Halifax and amazing atmosphere
Food was excellent, oysters were fresh and drinks were very tasty

If you’ve never been, it’s still a beautiful, historic place to eat dinner. We were trying to recapture the experience we had more than 15 years ago and to us it didn’t measure up.
Dish was j we cooked, not enough vegetable sides or options , mediocre wine list. Sorry to have to say it!

Loved our experience here. Just went for drinks and dessert but both were outstanding. Incredible service too.
Everything was fantastic, the food and the staff. We enjoyed our evening very much. Thank you!

If you enjoy very small salads for a whole lot of money and a seafood risotto where they put as little seafood as possible in it and charge you a fortune then this is your spot. I shouldn’t be such a whiner but this was a common theme on the restaurants we visited.
We were here twice. First time was for appetizers. We had a charcuterie board that was delicious and oysters. Still, a very small amount of food for so much money.

Was there the first time for oysters, phenomenal service by Steve at the bar. The 2nd night I had a beautiful scallop dish!

When we read a review that the oysters were incredible, we decided that Press Gang would be our dinner destination. The building dates to around 1760 and feels warm, cozy, and welcoming. We were seated in a brick and stone lined alcove (where apparently many proposals and anniversary dinners have occurred). Lindsay - a Haligonian - took care of us beautifully - she knew about the building, the food, pairing the Sauvignon Blanc with the oysters, and more. A dozen oysters from Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and PEI with shaved horseradish were thoroughly enjoyed by two Chesapeake Bay oyster-lovers. Dinner was light: a beet and goat cheese salad and Press Gang’s signature seafood chowder - proclaimed by my husband to be some of the best he has ever had. We finished with a shared crème brûlée that matched the rest of the meal in its excellence.
What looks like a “common” British pub when you enter is truly a gastrophile’s delight. HIGHLY recommend it.

We came out from Ontario and picked The Press Gang as our fancy night out. It did not disappoint. Our server Rich was so friendly and knowledgeable. He recommended pairings with our meal and explained the choices. We picked The Drill and could not have been more blown away! What accomplished chefs they have! It was amazing! The staff were so great and welcoming we would highly recommend!

The atmosphere is fabulous with our table nestled in a cove created by wood from old ships. Our server had been their 22years and provided us with excellent service. The food...absolutely delicious! I would rate the Press Gang the best restaurant in Halifax!!!
