Sumi is my new favorite sushi place! We have been going since it opened and have never had a bad experience. The food is fantastic and the service is great— we have never been left waiting for long. The staff is totally on it. The food is veryyy fairly priced versus many of the sushi places I’ve gone to, and the quality has never disappointed. This is the spot we go to whenever we feel like going out.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, spotless, modern, with high end touches like Japanese bidets, quality chopsticks, and elegant decor. It really sets the stage for what should be a great dining experience.
Where things fell apart was the sushi. We asked for two hand rolls (two people dining, simple enough), but instead were served two cut rolls. When I clarified, it was clear we were up against a language barrier. The staff were translating back and forth with the chef, and the miscommunication never got resolved.
But the biggest issue was the rice. Sushi should hold together easily - sadly the rice was falling apart faster than my New Year’s resolutions.
We had a sake, four rolls, and two salads. The bill came to $85. Honestly, if the rice had been made properly, the rest of the mix-ups wouldn’t have bothered me. But with the basics off, the whole meal just didn’t land.
One extra detail: on the way out, a car pulled up with a few men in suits unloading groceries into the restaurant. They called out to me and asked how the meal was, which was actually really kind. I didn’t tell them the full truth in that moment, and I’m okay with that.
Turns out the restaurant is owned by local attorneys, which explains the car full of suits. So here’s a pro tip for future reviewers: always leave five stars. That way, when you tear into the details, it can’t count as defamation of character… you literally praised them. It’s like a legal loophole for sushi disappointment.

Wow—what a YUMMY sushi spot! Everything was so fresh and absolutely delicious. My husband has had sushi in Japan and usually says nothing can compare… but Sumi came so close! The quality was outstanding, and the staff made the whole experience even better. I wish I took pictures of the food but it was beautifully presented as well.
A special shoutout to Skylar—he went above and beyond to make sure our date was perfect. You’ve got a true gem of an employee there! Thank you for giving us such a wonderful day out together. Thanks again Skylar

I had a great time when I came into the restaurant last. Sarah and Brooke are nice and busy working gals. They did an awesome job in getting things done with how busy it was inside that night. Thought it was great to hear them ask multiple times if we were doing okay and needed anything else while waiting for the sushi chefs to make our rolls. I will be back.
