Koyo refers to the changing of Japanese maple tree leaves as a metaphor for seaonsal. Koyo utilizespeak seasonal ingredients to create an Omakase experience by Chef Jay. We stepped inside this beautiful simple restaurant and quickly seated at the sushi bar by their friendly hostess. The gold tier Omakase consists of three otsumami’s, twelve nigiri’s, a temaki, and dessert. Each otsumami course is prepped with detail that you can taste. Rice is on point with the perfect seasoning....
This place has great reviews and for $155 a person we came in expecting to be wow'd. Sadly we were not. The fish quality is excellent however the presentation is very barebones - hardly any fancy creations. Also the pieces are quite small and they come with little rice underneath so that at the end we were actually still hungry. So yes, the sushi chef is excellent and the fish fresh and all of the basics are there but this was nowhere near a top Omakase experience like we...
Best Omakase in NY, period!I’ve pretty much tried every Michelin star (including Masa) Japanese restaurant in NY. They don’t come anywhere near the quality of food and service to Koyo. We’re here every month now. Hope they get a Michelin star soon!
