I've been going to JP's for years. Although I haven’t been there in quite some time, I decided to go there on a date last night. I ordered the twin lobster tail dinner. Being that I'm on a diet, I have been replacing starches with veggies but the ONLY veggie they have are peas which was the first strike. So l was forced to get a potato as a side. The salad was made primarily of iceberg lettuce which I despise(strike two). The lobster tail had a funny after taste (not sure if it was thoroughly cooked or if that's just the taste of their lobster) which was strike three. I was so dissatisfied that the waitress asked to remove the meal from the bill which I gladly accepted. For those prices you would think their vegetable selection would be a bit more vast with other salad choices such as romaine lettuce perhaps. I'm shocked and sad to say I will never return to JP's ever again
Food although expensive, it was delicious. Our server Melissa was awesome and our company was delightful. The atmosphere can get a bit of a lift but otherwise, I recommend the restaurant.

JP's is one of the finest restaurants on City Island and is my personal favorite. Food is fresh and cooked to perfection; service is friendly, prompt and attentive and the atmosphere is that of a family style restaurant that is very comfortable and personable.

JP's is a bit laid back, with laid back music, but that's what I love about it. It's not bougie like some of the other restaurants on City Island. And because it's off the main street it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Also, to some their prices may seem high, but the large portion size you're getting is why it's priced that way. In any other restaurant, if you ordered ravioli, you'd probably get 5 pieces on your plate. JP's gives enough to feed 2-3 people! My meal usually yields 2 days worth if leftovers. Plus you get a salad and that delicious buttery garlic bread!
Also they serve REAL drinks, not the watered-down stuff you get at other places. And I love that the owner is the bartender, so he's always there to greet the customers.
And finally, the views of the river on the right side are all worth it!
Update: JP's is expanding... Klassy Kuisine will be opening soon in the shared space on the left side.

We spent over $700 and the food was of poor quality and flavorless. What a disappointment. I would not recommend this place to nobody.

Oh JP’s. It really hurts to write this review but this place has gone downhill. It’s been my favorite restaurant for YEARS, things have really changed more recently though. While the serving sizes are HUGE, the flavor/taste is NON EXISTENT. I can understand low salt however the food had NONE, no herbs, spices..NOTHING. There was a sign on the door warning patrons about pricing, that still did not prepare me for $75 WHITING and SHRIMP that I could’ve got from 125th street for a fifth of the price and more than half the flavor! I was also very disappointed in the garlic bread( which is usually a hit) that I could’ve rung out the butter like a wet washcloth. My stomach is hurting till this very moment from all the grease.
It was really sad to see the place with barely any customers on a beautiful evening on the weekend. JP I hope you see this and don’t take offense but rather use this as constructive criticism to make things better for the future.
Be blessed!

Great atmosphere that pairs nicely with the amazing seafood. Ordered two broiled combos for 2 people as we had 4 people. Enough food to feed 6-7 people. :)

The best seafood restaurant I have ever eaten at in NYC. The owner prioritizes his patrons and the quality of the food and service is exceptional. If you want enjoy a meal with beautiful views of Long Island Sound and great atmosphere you have to eat a meal at JP's Restaurant.

The waitress was so nice, but for this place to have a family/ friend vibe it wasnt when it came to the menu, the food was very very overpriced, and some dish no flavor and the colorful sgin on the door felt more like family member playing a joke, but wouldnt recommend this place for family dinner
