I was highly disappointed with how expensive the food is the seasoning isn't there. I ordered a Red snapper that had absolutely no flavor and FULL of grease. The Cole slaw was another disappointment. I would never recommend this place nor visit again. I will say the young lady that served me was kind and I still left her a good tip.

If I could give my overall experience a negative number I would. My bill total was $86. I left 4 $20, a $5 and a $1. Waiter takes the money, comes back seconds later and informs me I only put 3 $20 bills. I informed him I counted the money twice and put the correct amount on the table. With inflation going on, I wasnât willing to put another $20 bill down (itâs the principle). So I ask for the manager. I ask her if she can check the cameras and the first thing she says is âthatâs not necessary.â (Then later on states that she doesnât have access to the cameras). Then proceeds to tell me how long the waiter has been working there and how she has never had no issues with him. Letâs keep in mind, the word âstealâ or âstolenâ hasnât come out of my mouth. He couldâve possibly misplaced it or it couldâve fell on the floor on his way to the cash register. I love this establishment and the food as I have been going there since I was a little girl. I will no longer return this establishment as I am completely and utterly embarrassed and not satisfied with the way the issue was dealt with.

A great idea on their part to have something a little different than just seafood on a menu in City Island...... The BBQ is spot on. Plenty of food to go home with you, it's like getting 2 meals for the price of one. Definitely will be going back.

I came to Sammyâs Fish Box with my family, including my 3-year-old daughter. At first, my toddler was upset and cryingâas toddlers often areâbut what shocked me was how the hostess handled it. She didnât greet us warmly or even acknowledge us at first. After much encouragement, she finally made a very dismissive remark: âDo you even think you should sit down?â That comment alone was unprofessional and insensitive. Once we were seated, things didnât improve. The hostess (late 30âs-40, female, black hair) continued to be inattentive and showed no concern for our table. I even decided to step outside and take my daughter to the park, leaving my husband and mother at the restaurant, but even then the hostess never bothered to check on them or make sure they were being taken care of.
For a restaurant that caters to families and large groups, I expected kindness, patience, and at least basic attentiveness. Instead, the service we receivedâespecially from the hostessâwas cold, dismissive, and frankly terrible. It left such a bad impression that I would not return, and I cannot recommend this restaurant to other families.

TLDR: Do not eat here: NASTY food and drinks, poor service, and filthy bathrooms (nothing like the regular Sammy's): I'll start with I've gone to Sammy's fish box for years and the food there is amazing. So we had very high hopes for this place. Walking in, the decor is cute and the overall vibe is great. It went steeply downhill from there. The food: the chili was great, seafood was subpar, and the bbq and sides were NASTY. Very dry, weird or almost inedible seasoning, and none of it was consistent with the typical Sammy's quality. The macaroni was bland and pasty, the collard greens tasted like a bottle of vinegar, and the seafood tasted like it was fried in old oil. The drinks: we ordered sangria and I have NEVER tasted alcohol like this. We first ordered the white sangria and it was the wateriest drink I've ever had. The waiter switched it out for red sangria and OMG đłđłđł It tasted like poisonous Robitussin. We couldn't take more than two sips, it was that bad. The service: our waiter was pretty rude, though there may have been a cultural element to this. He's disappear for an almost unforgivable amount of time but then hovered when it was time for us to settle the check. There were other things servers and wait staff who helped and were nice, which I think helped balance it out. To top it all off, the bathrooms were also filthy and in one, the toilet didn't even flush. This is somewhere I'd never come back to, to me there was nothing redeemable about the experience. Next time, I'll stick to the regular Sammy's and call it a day.
