TLDR: Do not eat here: NASTY food and drinks, poor service, and filthy bathrooms (nothing like the regular Sammy's): I'll start with I've gone to Sammy's fish box for years and the food there is amazing. So we had very high hopes for this place. Walking in, the decor is cute and the overall vibe is great. It went steeply downhill from there. The food: the chili was great, seafood was subpar, and the bbq and sides were NASTY. Very dry, weird or almost inedible seasoning, and none of it was consistent with the typical Sammy's quality. The macaroni was bland and pasty, the collard greens tasted like a bottle of vinegar, and the seafood tasted like it was fried in old oil. The drinks: we ordered sangria and I have NEVER tasted alcohol like this. We first ordered the white sangria and it was the wateriest drink I've ever had. The waiter switched it out for red sangria and OMG 😳😳😳 It tasted like poisonous Robitussin. We couldn't take more than two sips, it was that bad. The service: our waiter was pretty rude, though there may have been a cultural element to this. He's disappear for an almost unforgivable amount of time but then hovered when it was time for us to settle the check. There were other things servers and wait staff who helped and were nice, which I think helped balance it out. To top it all off, the bathrooms were also filthy and in one, the toilet didn't even flush. This is somewhere I'd never come back to, to me there was nothing redeemable about the experience. Next time, I'll stick to the regular Sammy's and call it a day.

Sammy'a Smokehouse is NOT, I REPEAT, NOT the old Sammy'a. The service was horrible. The food was not work the aggravation. The manager was apologizing continuously by the time we brought the service issues to her attention. Born and raised in NYC. Been going to City Island since I was a child. The original Sammy's was IT back in the day! This new place is NOT!

The only good thing they have is the bread and pickles vegetables which is free. i got the shrimp & fish and it had no flavor at all. I was so dissatisfied and the food is over price for them to not put any love/seasoning in their food. their rice and corn aren’t even fresh it’s frozen and they served box rice.

This is a historical restaurant. If ever near City Island it's a must go place.
Usually a very good spot to get a meal but today was a total disaster. I dined in but ordered a Catfish dinner to go. The fish tasted freezer burnt, cornbread was moldy and my take out order was incomplete. I ended up tossing the entire takeout meal in the garbage.

This restaurant was really nice. Maybe because the season was shifting it was as crowded as imagine it would have been. It’s very nice and welcoming. The staff was kind. Our waitress was extremely nice. Very attentive and helpful. The food was great. I had the crab stuffed shrimp and let me tell you…. It was bomb!!! So it wasn’t stuffed per se but it had crumbles of thick rich meaty crab sprinkled on top with some type of Brad crumb in a garlic sauce. It was amazing I enjoyed it very much. Even more so the next day when all those flavor had a chance to marinate together. This is definitely a must try. I will go back and maybe try something else cause that shrimp was too good not to have again. It’s all the way at the end of the island so you have a nice view of the water. Pricey but worth it.
