This was the best Mexican I've had in Park Slope. I had the chicken and my girlfriend had the steak. Both meals were delicious, but I'd say the chicken was the best chicken I've had in years, hands down. Juicy with crispy skin and delicious sauce. The service was slow (took 40+ minutes to receive our food after ordering), but that's probably because we didn't get drinks or apps. Both looked great, but not for us. The vibe is a little loud, but great decor with very pleasant energy. Looking forward to bringing my parents here when they visit next time.

Experience at Alma Negra last night was outstanding. The service was so incredibly welcoming, I asked about wines and the bartender immediately took out their four bottles and poured me a taste of each. They were all refined and balanced. It was hard to choose but settled on a South African white. Just a touch of oak, which stood up well to the flavors of the meal. I ordered a taco, tamale and aguachile which is a Mexican ceviche — they were all delicious. Like moan out loud good. Beautiful ambience and serious great chef.

Got the fish taco and elote which were both very good. The fish taco was cod and was deep fried and extra crispy. To drink I had the Cariñosa which was a little sweet for my taste.

Alma Negra is a vibe. The restaurant’s decor isn’t your typical Mexican flare but instead is cozy with tons of plants and a clean aesthetic. The tacos were made with corn tortillas which were extra fresh and packed with flavor. Highly recommend starting with the guacamole and don’t skip dessert!

Came here for dinner after reading all of the great reviews and craving Mexican food. The restaurant is very nice and I enjoy the vibe, perfect for a date, but the food was just okay for me. To start, I had the sunset cocktail which was actually very tasty and I can highly recommend. For food, my friend and I shared the crab quesadilla, the short rib entree, and the octopus. For the most part, everything was good, but not outstanding or stood out as something I have to come back for. I am not a Mexican food expert, but I was expecting more complex flavors and also a bit more spice to the food which I didn't taste too much of in any of our dishes. Overall, a good restaurant but I am not sure I'd go out of my way for considering it was quite expensive and portions were small.
