This weekend I ventured to Fort Greene to enjoy the neighborhood vibe and decided on a meal at Colonia Verde. The atmosphere at this quaint little hot spot is transporting. Upon entering the front dining room one is completely unaware of the gorgeous little oasis that lies just beyond in the atrium and subsequent outdoor patio. I was seated in the patio area and it was a beautiful bit of a mirage that felt like a magical little courtyard in a hacienda in Central America.

As a Peruvian who knows good ceviche, I can confidently say Colonia Verde serves the best ceviche I’ve ever had — hands down. That’s saying a lot, and they absolutely deserve the praise!

Hope is not a luxury — it is a stubborn, flickering flame. And I return here, again and again, cradling that flame, whispering its name:

SHRIMP TACOS ON THE DINNER MENU.

Once, these shrimp tacos graced this dinner menu like a sunrise — bold, tender, transcendent. And then… banished to the pre-6'oclock menu. Disappeared like a dream you almost remember.

But I believe in resurrection. I believe in second chances....
