The owner, Melissa, although she puts on a good act for her guests, is a f****** monster. She's a nervous wreck, ex-smoker who's always on edge, and you should see how she treats her employees! you should see how she treats her husband (if they're even together anymore).She has no good persona in her. Self-proclaimed activist my a*** Treat your workers better before you start saying you're there for the people, you old crazy a** b***** I felt micromanaged at all times, and she never had one good thing to say. WowThis place is run by a woman who impulsively hoards newspapers dating back to the 70's and is not afraid to completely humiliate her employees in front of the guests. The coffee sucks and so does the food. :***** this place, I'm surprised it's still open. What a joke.

We held a brunch for around 75 out of town guests and family at Commons Café the morning following our wedding. Coordinating reservations and the menu with Melissa was easy to do. She is very professional, and her staff is great as well. We had the whole back room with a spread set out for guests to come and go as they pleased, mostly to grab a bite and to say goodbye after the wedding before heading home. We had bagels, muffins, lox, coffee and juice for a set price per person plus a fee per hour for rental. The lox and bagels are very good, and the cost was reasonable and fair. Overall the space and food were both great, and the service was great as well. Our farewell brunchat Commons Café was the perfect conclusion to our wedding weekend.

This place was a nice quiet vibe for me. I was looking for a spot for me to be warm and get some homework done before I met up with people at a bar for Happy Hour and then class afterwards... Don't judge lol I found the Brooklyn Commons, it was extremely cozy. Lots of space to park up and do work. The bathrooms were CLEAN and the snacks and beverages affordable.. The staff was very welcoming and entertaining. Yes yes yes I will be back to get some more work and done and maybe even check out an event or two. Thank you!

It is almost impossible to elucidate all of the reasons why I absolutely LOVE this cafe. The food is delicious - the House Salad is scrumptious, the Hibiscus iced tea served in a lovely glass is delicious, and the pastries are excellent, especially the macaroons, which are beyond delicious, and the Ginger Cookie with the lemon icing. But it is also the diversity of patrons I love, the feeling of being part of a community, the fact that one can be surrounded by patrons but can still focus on a book or do work on a computer, the diversity of events held in the back room, which adds to the diversity of the patrons, and the fact that the walls have been painted with lovely colors, and they now serve wine and beer. It is a lot of fun to spend time in this cafe, and observe all that is going on! Also, it appears to be an excellent place to hold events, such as musical gatherings, film showings, improv gatherings and plays. I have no idea how one schedules an event here, but I think one could easily call and find out. I really love this cafe. And the staff is sweet and works hard!
