Another one of those new annoying Indian restaurants taking over all of NYC (looking at you Dhamaka, Jazba, Gazab) servicing overpriced, over-spiced “authentic” Indian food to a largely white audience assuming they don’t know any better.

As for this one, my experience was much like what others have said - stupidly overpriced, inattentive service (nonchalant Hispanic waiter, had to ask for water after 15 mins of sitting down), small portions (2 pieces of shrimp, really?) with a strict no-sharing policy. If you go for lunch like I did, they only serve the Thali (attached picture) which is $38 a piece and everyone is required to get one - how convenient.

Regretted my visit - will not be back and ask others to go to your local Indian restaurant instead.

It’s good mainly because it’s hard to get authentic bengali dishes in Nyc. They really need to tone down the heat level on certain dishes like the Phuchka and Chilli Chicken. If we speak about authenticity, most Calcutta restaurants do let you tone down the heat….even roadside Phuchka sellers.

The parantha was dry and hard. Everything else was as close to the authentic flavor as you can get outside Kolkata.

It was really good! Gobi chili was make-you-hiccup spicy, but so good you won't mind. And all the thali dishes were great. Especially the fish pakora—between that and the little shoestring fries, it was probably the best fish and chips I've ever had.

I'm not sure anything blew me away, but everything was very good. I'll come back.

Everything was amazing! Highly recommend!

Fantastic food. A lot different, and a lot better, than a run of the mill Indian restaurant. Get the goat!

Well would not recommend this to Desi (Indo-Pak) only. I have had better Bengali food for much less and more taste for sure through out NYC. If you want to eat masala filled curries drenched in oil then it's your choice but I did not find what the hype was and it's claim to fame food is not even at par with my desi palette. Please eat Bengali food elsewhere

Definitely get the kosha mangsho. The kheema pao and chilli chicken was also fantastic. Probably my favorite Indian restaurant in NY!

It was beyond perfection. Everything was so tasty and exactly one would expect in a Bengali restaurant. I can't wait to go back again. The cocktails were so great. The puchka were to die for. Can't forget the taste of lamb chap.

It’s been a long time since I’ve truly enjoyed an Indian restaurant & Masalawala & Sons hit the mark! The food was delicious, providing a variety of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes! I’m obsessed with the chili gobi which was just the right amount of spice for me & my sisters, who enjoy spicy food! Joy, our server was incredible & such a treat to be around! And they had mocktails for those who don’t drink. And the atmosphere was beautiful and warm with great music! Truly a Jem in Parkslope!

Amazing food! Amazing service!

Joy and the team are absolutely incredible and take care of you from the time you enter the restaurant to the time you leave.

I’m not a fan of overly sweet savory dishes and this place balances the elegance of the nature of authentic cuisine with an incredible atmosphere. 10/10 would fine again

We had a fantastic experience with Joy as our server! He was incredibly attentive and provided excellent recommendations that really enhanced our meal. The food was both tasty and delightfully spicy, just as we were warned. We loved every bite! Highly recommend this place for great service and delicious flavors.
