I really like Mitchell's, I'm really sorry that l didn't know about this place sooner. I used to go to church in the neighborhood when The Brooklyn Tabernacle was at Flatbush and 7th Avenue but l just have to be glad that l know it now. The food is good, my favorite is smothered chicken with rice and gravy and collards, cabbage and mac and cheese. They even have stuffing if you get there before they run out. It's cash only and the spot is small but they also have takeout. One of my favorite places to eat... Oh yea, l usually take a catfish sandwich home...

This place won’t be around forever so glad I got to go before that happens. Delicious classic style soul food and wonderful staff.

Hole in the wall serving tasty soul food. Fish and chicken plates were both excellent, as were the sides. Peach cobbler had a little too much nutmeg for my taste. Great prices and portion size

This landmark 40 year old resturant is a true treasure. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming, the place is cosy and spotless, the food is the real deal and the walls are covered in good advice. You can NOT beat their fried chicken, fish, turkey, mac and cheese, collard greens, and black eyed peas... it's all amazing. Leave room for the homemade cakes if you can. Please don't ever change Mitchell's!
I thought this was an abandoned Deli for over two years, come to found out its a soul food establishment?
The place is closed and looks pretty dirty (outside) most the time.
Mitchell's is a gem of true local Brooklyn culture and real soul food that I have been privileged to enjoy for the past ten years and would like to continue to enjoy for another decade and more to come.
Unfortunately, certain locals associated with Transportation Alternatives, Open Streets, and pushing out the African American mainstays that define Prospect Heights and made Vanderbilt a safe place found it necessary to give them bad online reviews. These people are the worst kind of gentrifiers -- something that I am, but at least I can admit it and try to offset that by eating in the places that made this neighborhood a destination to begin with. Shame on these faux Brooklynites and big ups to Mitchell's!

Great service and very cas atmosphere.
Food so- so. I'm not a fan of greens with a little sugar in them, the mac-n-cheses had very little cheese, the cornbread was a sweet mushy cornbread like Jiffy cornbread.
Flavorless food.
