A friend took me to Salter House today in my hunt for a last minute courthouse wedding outfit. I’d been promised simple, elegant pieces with that effortless, nonchalant vibe. And the clothes delivered.

The person working the shop… also embodied “nonchalant,” maybe a little too literally. She was sweet, adorable and practically vapor. After a couple easy questions about sizing, she vanished. We tried on clothes, wandered the store, basically worked our own shift while she floated somewhere in the ether.

Maybe it’s the Gen Z allergy to eye contact sans screen, maybe it’s a no commission retail malaise, maybe it’s just trust fund zen. Who knows. Beautiful products either way, but you might have to shoplift them, because no one’s around to ring you up. Who doesn’t love a freebie?

Possible solution: teach the basics of customer service, pay staff enough to survive NYC, maybe toss in a little commission so grabbing a size from the back doesn’t feel like an existential threat.

Nice light but beware of the girl with fake red hair who works there. #nasty and rude to customers. Terrible attitude. Everyone else is nice.

Salter House is one of my favorite shops in Bk. Shop is arranged with beautiful items - seems like most of the item is organic and using sustainable materials - which I’m always excited to stop by to check their curations.

However, most of the times when I’m there for a quick browsing or buying items, the person behind the counter is rude and apathetic to their customers - which really ruins the atmosphere. It was a couple days ago when I stopped by with my partner to grab a quick coffee and a couple things for our bathroom, the person with blond-ish curly hair did not seem like they want to provide any information about the item nor the person wasn’t keen to greeting their customers. While checking out the items, there were some technical issues where the person started to show unprofessional attitudes - not even trying to fix or work on the devices but just frowning. It seemed to me that the person was just complaining and not showing any professionalism towards their customers.

It’s not the experience I expected.
They need to work on their employees.

I ordered an iced latte made with oat milk, and it was absolutely delicious! I also love that the simple syrup is homemade; it adds a unique touch of sweetness that enhances the overall flavor. This drink is definitely one of my new favorites!

Staff are incredibly rude; they did not offer to help you with anything and, when asked, acted like this was an enormous chore.

They don't have WiFi and the coffee is not the best, but is a nice spot to sit and enjoy the morning light.

A cute and cozy store with cafe inside. Employees are always friendly and it’s a great spot for home goods and gifts (a bit pricey, but all thoughtfully curated)
