Fantastic space, where both the patrons and staff were cool, and cared about their neighbors and their community. There was a wonderful organization called Freedom Agenda there, celebrating their fifth year in existence, fighting to close Rikers Island and to end mass incarceration and the structural racism driving it. The drinks were reasonably priced, the pool table worked and was it good shape, and when the DJ started spinnin', the place was bouncing with good vibes and music. Everyone seemed welcome and like they were having fun. The art and murals on the wall, including some great quotes, all combined to make this place a spot I will return to again.

Karaoke was a fun idea, but the host, DJ, really didn’t seem to have things organized. They charge per song, yet DJ kept jumping in to sing multiple songs himself—even with a long list of paying guests still waiting. It’s a great bar with an awesome vibe, but I wouldn’t recommend coming on karaoke night unless the hosting improves. The bartender, though, was absolutely amazing!

Run an event here and the place is absolutely amazing. Great venue, great vibes, fantastic bartenders. Starr bar is one of my favorites and anyone who has a bad time here must have something wrong with them.

Went to an event here for a friend this past Saturday and it was terrible. Where do I even begin. First thing one of the bartenders (don’t know his name) however a white tall gay male had the rudest F attitude and said “Gurl bye” to my friend after he assumed she didn’t have a tab open. Once it was established she did indeed have a tab open we find out they actually lost her card by giving it to another patron….which led us down a rabbit hole. I don’t know if Carey is the manager however he did his best to rectify the situation and I appreciate that. On the other hand the bartender who was giving attitude continued to make unnecessary comments and it was clear he liked to argue with females but that energy changed once myself and other male friends approached the situation. He did apologize after we told him he needs to stop going back and forth with a woman especially over a mistake his establishment made. Would I go back absolutely not. On the other hand the employee Carey who actually helped was the only professional employee here.

I was very disappointed by this place. My friends rented out the back room for an event, so you think they would have cared about us. But it was a nightmare. One bartender let a stranger sign my bill and take my credit card and took no responsibility for it. Another bartender, NICK, was extremely disrespectful and told us if we didn’t like his attitude to get over it and not come back. I hope the owner sees this and realizes keeping customers is more important than holding on to rude, unprofessional, and utterly incompetent staff.

My husband had his party at Starr Bar this past Sunday, and I have to say, it was an amazing experience from start to finish. I was there early while he set up, and the staff was so helpful. Making sure the table layout was right, the lights were on point, and the bar was ready to go.
Ren, the bartender that night, was incredible. She kept everything flowing smoothly and made sure everyone was taken care of with a smile. The food was SLAPPIN! The fries were fresh and the tacos were flavorful. And my drink was nice, sweet and strong 🤪
What really stood out to me was the overall atmosphere. Even the regulars who weren’t part of our event were warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to. I ended up having conversations with so many people throughout the night. It felt like one big community.
At one point, a couple of people came in causing trouble and trying to steal drinks, and the staff handled it quickly, calmly, and professionally. They didn’t let it affect the energy in the room at all — which just shows how much they care about creating a safe, enjoyable environment.
Star Bar is definitely the kind of neighborhood spot Brooklyn needs — friendly people, great energy, and staff that truly go above and beyond.
Oh! And if you’re into content creation… they have amazing graffiti art and murals outside. I got great photos!

Really good cocktails and Mocksville. Bartenders are engaging and friendly. Nice table seating for small groups. Venue space is small but perfect for standup and small productions.

I had paid and tipped in cash before switching to an open tab. They hold onto credit cards here for open tabs, and I forgot to close my tab before leaving. The next day my card was charged $500 worth at a random shoe retailer. It was a new card I hadn’t used anywhere so someone working here definitely stole it. I’m a trans student who works in the food industry, and I had a rare night buying $2 beers with friends :( I get stealing cards if you’re struggling; I don’t blame you. Maybe try it at places that aren’t queer dive bars?
