Fantastic space, where both the patrons and staff were cool, and cared about their neighbors and their community. There was a wonderful organization called Freedom Agenda there, celebrating their fifth year in existence, fighting to close Rikers Island and to end mass incarceration and the structural racism driving it. Karaoke was a fun idea, but the host, DJ, really didn’t seem to have things organized. They charge per song, yet DJ kept jumping in to sing multiple songs himself—even with a long list of paying guests still waiting. It’s a great bar with an awesome vibe, but I wouldn’t recommend coming on karaoke night unless the hosting improves. The bartender, though, was absolutely amazing!
Run an event here and the place is absolutely amazing. Great venue, great vibes, fantastic bartenders. Starr bar is one of my favorites and anyone who has a bad time here must have something wrong with them.
