My parents were visiting from out of town. They prefer chill bars with beer over nice cocktail lounges. I checked google and found The Gibson. It was truly awful. We walked in and the place reeked of wet dog. We waited to see if we should be seated or have someone seat us. Not a single person acknowledged our presence- mind you, the place was not busy at all. There were maybe six other people inside. We looked to seat ourselves a dog started barking very very loudly. Then there was another dog that got all riled up because the first dog was barking- explains the overwhelming smell of wet dog.I don’t drink beer so I wasn’t sure were else to take my parents. My dad went to order a drink at the bar. He waited at the bar for over five minutes without a single employee acknowledging him.My parents are very nice pleasant people. I’m a nice pleasant person who works in the service industry. We never spoke to a single person who works there in the fifteen minutes we were there. We got dirty looks and eye rolling from the other patrons when they heard me say it smelled like wet dog and never got acknowledged by a single employee.I asked a friend where we should go that was a chill atmosphere with beer and they recommended Skinny Dennis. We went to SD and had a really great time. The employees were very nice, the vibe was fun, the band was great, the other patrons were (New York) friendly. The Gibson is tragic. It’s a bar for living breathing walking memes of people who live in Williamsburg circa 2011. And it smells.

The Gibson is a pretty great spot to grab a stiff whiskey drink with friends if you are in the area. We came in here while staying in Brooklyn to catch up with family for a late-night Brooklyn evening. The crowd was tame and the music was bumping. It was great to watch the NY Yankees on the large projection screen inside while we enjoyed the brisk cool breeze. I really enjoy the social account that The Gibson runs on Instagram as they provide information on specials on drinks, events, and trivia too. Be sure to check it out so that you know what is going on. I saw they opened up on time to host NYC Marathoners while the route ran right through and in front of The Gibson. Select of whiskeys, for this Texas girl, was extensive! I saw many Texas whiskeys, of course, but the recommendations from the bar staff on what else to try (because I have tried a lottttttt of Texas whiskeys) hit the spot!

We stopped by here for a quick drink and it was a bit busy inside, but we ordered a beer and Bloody Mary and sat outside to people watch for a bit before heading to dinner to meet our friends. The Bloody Mary was average, about a 7/10. They have a variety of whiskey on the menu in addition to different beers, and they do offer flights. Their tap list focused on local craft beers which is always great when you want to taste some beers unique to the area. It wasn't too busy inside, and they took our order quickly, and was pretty uneventful inside at the time that we went. Still, it was a nice place to grab a quick drink and sit outside people watching, and I would return again if in the area.

Great service, incredibly friendly and helpful staff, Frose is on point with nothing but ice, sugar and Rose.
Classic neighborhood watering hole with the friendliest staff and inviting atmosphere. Plus they let you bring food in! We've had a couple socials here for our gym members and everyone always has the best time.

Great place and awesome bartenders. Stopped in on a Monday late afternoon and had a great time with Kareem (hope I spelled it right). Very knowledgeable and personable. Will absolutely stop by next time we are in NYC.

Good vibes and solid drinks but they charged me two times for the same round. Once initially and then another when I closed out. In this economy too. Asked the bartender and he said it was a "pre-authorization" thing but usually pre authorizations are done in a much smaller denomination than the price of two cocktails. I will definitely patronize a different bar next time I'm in the area.

Good beer and whisky. Aperol spritz was ok. Wasn’t very busy on Friday around 9, but started getting busier later around 10:30.

Great spot to hang out with friends for some casual drinks. The bartenders were super nice and fun, made great beer recommendations and even helped me decide what to get for dinner. The description mentions food but note that this place doesn’t serve any kind of food!! But they let you bring food in or order delivery to the bar. Will definitely be back!
Yummy empanadas out back and good beers
