The Johnson’s is a classic dive bar tucked away in the heart of the East Village, known for its chill vibe and no-frills atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for anyone looking to escape the crowds and enjoy a relaxed drink in a low-key setting.
The jukebox sets the tone, spinning everything from classic rock to soul, while the bar offers a solid selection of affordable beers and a variety of cocktails. The bartenders are friendly, laid-back, and always up for a chat, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
The crowd is a mix of regulars and newcomers, creating a welcoming and unpretentious environment. There’s also a pool table in the back for those who want to enjoy a little friendly competition. If you’re looking for a true dive bar experience in NYC, The Johnson’s offers exactly that—comfortable, fun, and full of local charm.

Whoever was working the bar on 12/1 needs to be checked. The guy and the girl at the bar were very rude and kept staring and giggling at me and my friends. They are not polite and I hope no one else experiences this kind of behavior from someone who’s supposed to serve you and make you feel comfortable in the environment they work in.

Overall, the food attached to this bar wasn’t my cup of tea the ranch is this weird runny green sauce concoction. Wings and animal fries weren’t it for me either, wings were cooked well, again just couldn’t get past the sauce. Papa’s burger is solid! I’d take into consideration they are literally called ‘strange flavor’ for a reason haha.
The bar before asking anything immediately ID’d me and my partner, I showed them mine and my partners ID to which I asked them about these two happy hour drinks (I wasn’t expecting happy hour prices) motioned me to fellow bartender, who told me they don’t make those anymore, I asked for 2 margs, asked me to give them a second, i then asked if they had flavors ‘Umm i have juices’ I said cool i’ll just take them standard then. I never got my drinks, bartender was too busy trying to look busy wiping down an empty counter and fixing his makeup. A group of white people came in and were immediately given their drinks (Nobody was asked for an ID either) As other reviews have said I wouldn’t outright say they’re discriminating but I just feel that if I was a white person I would have been served instantly. I wasn’t going to write a review until I read that my fellow POC have felt this type of way towards the bar staff in particular. For management I’d say consider restaffing your rude bartenders, as this was my first experience with this bar and will definitely be my last!

I was surprised that I like the food here, but I did. Burgers and fries and what not. you orger, you get a buzzard, then it rings and you pick up the food. Drinks in the back. The place was quite loud, to loud for my liking. They have two tables outside. That was a nice place to sit and enjoy the food. overall sure, I would go back.
Vegetarian options: yes, apparently you can get a veg burger foe $1 extra
Dietary restrictions: I would definitely be careful here.
Wheelchair accessibility: I dont think you would be able to get in the door with the high lip. Maybe I am wrong...

Food and atmosphere was good, but the bartender was trash. I don't know what he thought was a mojito, but it definitely wasn't what he served me. there were 3 mojitos ordered and each one was trash. you should retire from the service industry.

bad energy for no reason me fears!!!!!!!!!! Specifically at 6:40 on 4/28 with miss piggy behind the bar. Please please find another career path lol
The bartenders are the rudest people this side of the Mississippi and on top of that don’t even know how to make drinks! The worst mojito I’ve ever had like how did you mess up a classic cocktail? Please, repent.

We love a $8 beer and shot combo. Wish the pool table wasn't so busy!

The bar had a very cute, homey 70’s. There was full service food available-sandwiches and other “fast food”. We had the corn dog and the animal fries. The corn dog was delicious, I think it could have been fried a bit longer but nether the less it was great. The animal fries were okay, just not my thing I guess.

Good food is amazing. Drinks are great. Both reasonably priced but man the music is all over the place, not great, and very very loud. My ears were ringing when I left after all that random 90s alternative
