Two for the Pot is a magical, pocket-sized, neighborhood epicerie that has been serving Brooklyn Heights for over 50 years. It’s a dimly-lit curiosity shop for coffee and tea lovers, packed floor to ceiling with bags of aromatic coffee beans, brewing paraphernalia, spices, tins of loose leaf tea and cookies, cookware, and odds and ends for entertaining.

John, the gentle owner, is a fixture at the shop and meticulous with customer service. I’m a regular; I buy a weekly bag of custom-blended coffee beans and we have a chat about politics and life. This week John accidentally mixed up my order with another customer’s because we both (unusually) sent our husbands in to pick up our orders. John later realized the error and took the time to find my contact info via a mutual friend, email a sincere apology, and offer to bike a free bag of coffee to my doorstep.

Small-town caretaking is what makes Two For the Pot so special to our neighborhood, and makes this neighborhood such a special place to live. And while he used to be cash-only, he now takes Venmo.

Thank you John!

I’m sure I caught the owner on a bad day, as all reviews here are of very positive experiences. But as this was my very first time at the shop, which I had been meaning to visit because it’s probably the last mom and pop shop in the area, I wasn’t sure where to look for what I needed. As I entered, the owner gave me a look that probably meant they don’t see a lot of brown people at the store. Then I cleared the air by letting him know I was there to grab some of their coffee, to which he responded in a rather cold and unwelcoming tone “I am helping this gentleman first”. I waited a couple more minutes for the benefit of the doubt, and I went 100% ignored. Sadly, I had to leave because being a person, when you receive a certain message as devastating as it is, you have to accept it.

I've gone here for over 30 years, beginning when it was located across the street on Atlantic Avenue. It's truly one of a kind and a testament to its owner and sole employee, John.

Not the most accurate review since the owner had a limited access due to a health issue. But very kind and helpful

New York’s coffee culture is world-famous. Although chain coffee shops have taken over most of the market, handcrafted coffee shops like Two For The Pot are still deeply loved by New Yorkers. Not only does it sell fresh hand-ground coffee, but Earl Grey/Moroccan mint tea is also worth a try. Coffee/tea lovers should start planting~
