DUMPLINGS!!!!!

Quick counter service for your quick Chinese fix. I can honestly say food, service and cleanliness is above average but not equal to Flushing or even Chinatown. Don’t get me wrong, for the Neighbourhood, they do a good job and provide an alternative to the burgers and steaks around the area.

An excellent spot if you’re on a budget.

If they get your order right, oh boy are you in for one delicious meal. That said, I’ve never had a smooth experience getting food here, either ordering take out, eating in, or getting delivery. Not once has everything been right. I guess it speaks to how good their food is that I keep coming back.

The sandwich always hits. The wontons were tasty. The pan fried dumplings are way better than the boiled. Boiling it does something to the consistency for me. The pan fried has a great crunch on the seared side.

There are a ton of dumpling options, but the pork steamed buns were the best. (Bottom right of my photo).

We also ordered some bok choy to be healthy, and they gave us a ton! Like way too much for two people.

Would come here again. A good casual dumpling option.

I am pescatarian, so no meat or poultry, but fish is fine. Before I ordered shrimp dumplings I specifically asked the staff if there is any meat other than shrimp in the ingredients, and they, with complete confidence, assured me there is only shrimp. Well, I was eating them back home already when I decided to check the ingredient list on their website (I just looked at the ingredients on a photo of the take-home frozen shrimp dumplings). Guess what, there was chicken in em. And I am no Karren, and I also won't die because I ate something I haven't consumed in 10 years. But I sure do feel disgusting. The dumplings were really good btw but this is unacceptable.

Got a quick order from the touch kiosk of buns and hot and sour soup. This place is pretty low key but actually has alot of seating maybe 8 tables total. They have vinegar and their own hot sauce out for everyone, both if which i thought were quite goot. The buns were perfectly cooked and had a great ratio of dough to meat, not dry at all and very flavorful, though i did add some dumpling sauce to them. The hot and sour soup was pretty good though in was lacking on the vinegar snot really that sour, i also added some hot sauce which balanced it nicely. So while the soup was neither particularly hot or sour the flavor and amount of mushrooms, vegetables and tofu was what saved it, really tasty and their bamboo shoots were tender and never tough to eat, which is not always easy to do.

fast service, however the food was bland. Noodles were overcooked and tasteless. The pork bun had a little puck of pork, with an unnecessary large, yet hollow bun around it. Not great and won't be returning. Employees were rude.

They offer a great selection of vegetarian options, and I was eager to try the vegan beef dumpling—it did not disappoint. The flavors were bold and satisfying. Can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu. Despite its modest appearance, this spot packs a serious flavor punch.

Absolutely delicious dumplings. Great variety. Excellent prices. (They even have frozen dumplings to take home and cook.) Super casual- a few shared tables and people rotate through quickly.

In over 40 years of eating dumplings in nyc, these are probably the worst I've ever had.

Fried dumplings were overly fried and oily and tasteless. Yuck.

The last time I went to this Vanessas maybe 1-2 years i was shocked that the prices had jumped up. Went lastnight and they were up again!!
Any long-time Nyker who knows Vanessas from Eldridge LES knows the drill. Cheap and cheerful. Go in and out. Back in the day it was $1 for 4. Something like that. The joy was a handmade meal on the cheap. It was literally popularised by students. The 14st location I never had a good experience at re the food quality. Eldridge LES still ruled.
The Wburg location was a godsend to the area and it was cheap. I think $2 for 4. It got very popular overnight and it was great for the hardworking staff.
Now…. It’s $7 for 8….Sorry it’s hard to put down $30 for a Vanessa’s meal knowing this used to be $10
Max! It’s not like the quality is any better. It’s ok. It’s homemade for sure. But it’s pretty rudimentary… Pretty sure Eldridge location prices are less. Feel bad for students!!

Good food that’s not overpriced. I’ve gotten their dumplings, wontons and sesame pancakes. This time, I tried their beef noodle soup. Good portion for the price, beef was tender and soup was flavorful. Since it was takeout, I like that they separated the noodles and soup.
