Finally made it to Vinegar Hill House after years of wanting to go, and it did not disappoint! Went with 7 visiting VPs and everything from the service to the food was top-notch. We tried nearly the whole menu and the standouts were the Liver Mousse, the Corn and Crab special, the incredibly tender Charred Octopus, and the perfectly cooked Pork Chops. One VP even said it was the best meal they’ve had in months of travel. Definitely adding this to our go-to list!
Food was good not great for the price charged. I’d say 30-40% overpriced for relatively standard dishes. Atmosphere is great, very cosy interior. Large service staff for a small restaurant but we felt we just got basic service.
We had the beets, focaccia, rigatoni, and halibut, with the panna cotta for dessert. The beets were outstanding, with the piquant sauce complementing the earthy sweetness of the beets. The rigatoni was also solid. The halibut itself was under-seasoned, but the accompaniments were flavorful. It felt like the dish needed a touch more acid and salt, but I still enjoyed it.
