Hanai Hawaiian BBQ is a fantastic spot and an amazing gem in Buffalo, offering a real taste of Hawaiian street food. The food is fantastic, amazing, and very good, with hefty portions for a fair price. Popular items include the spam musubi, beef short ribs, teri bowls, and the Pig & Poke plate. The ribs are insane and perfectly seasoned, though the pork can sometimes be a little dry, helped by the mac salad. The poke and slaw are great. Some note the rice can hold dishes back from being great and that side portions could be larger.
The restaurant is located inside a brewery, which is perfect and a big attraction, making it a super popular summer destination. The place itself was chilly and doesn’t remind one of Hawaii. Service is prompt, polite, and excellent, with extremely friendly staff. The chef, who may also be the owner, is super friendly and genuine, hand-delivering food to tables. Ordering is done at the counter, and after paying, you are prompted to leave a tip, which some customers dislike for counter service.
Overall, this is a really cool spot and a must-stop. Customers are happy to have the option in Buffalo, plan to return, and hope the business continues to build and improve.
