While visiting Buffalo recently I eagerly looked forward to enjoying a Buffalo fish fry. I was immensely disappointed at this restaurant’s idea of a Fish Fry. The Mac salad and coleslaw were uneventful but the large piece of fish was lying on top of the French fries which made them soggy. Now, for the worst….the beer battered fish looked good at first till I cut into it and saw the inside was still uncooked. The crust was mushy and unappetizing. It was one big mess and the topper of this was there was an extra charge of $1.00 on my bill for the Chef. Save your money and pick another place or don’t order the fish fry even though the bottled beer I ordered was great.

Great Service, Wonderful Atmosphere, Extensive Beer, Wine and cocktail list. The owners are awesome, they personally greet you and make you feel very welcomed. The food was very good, and drinks were even better!!!

I’ve been in a few times mid-week. The beers are fine, but the food is an abomination. The menu is almost all fryer food, which isn't always a bad thing, but it’s certainly not great here. Most recently I ordered the loaded fries ($13) and it was a plate of the saltiest fries I’ve ever had, loaded with melted nacho cheese (not in a good way) and some bacon. Menu also mentioned ranch but I didn’t see any. I think the bartenders are multi-tasking between working the bar, making food, and waiting tables, and it shows. Other times I’ve ordered other fried items that come out too dark and over cooked. Maybe the food is better on the weekend when there is (presumably) more staffing. Maybe that is where some of the more positive reviews are coming from. In my experience the staff is set up to fail. If I know I’m meeting friends here I eat dinner before I leave the house and stick to their beer menu.

Nice neighborhood place to grab a pint. They have a bubble hockey machine that kept us entertained for some time.

Tucked into Hertel but away from the main strip, the Public House is a terrific pub to frequent. I had a banana sour that was divine and the fried green tomatoes were tasty too. Only 4 slices in the appetizer order though. The honey wings were heavy on the honey. There was live acoustic guitar later in the evening and we will be back to taste more sours and ciders; there were several on the menu!

Untrue item description as the chicken fingers were Not panko encrusted nor were the french fries freshly cut as you can see in the picture. The actual food brought out does not justify $15

Untrue item description as the chicken fingers were Not panko encrusted nor were the french fries freshly cut as you can see in the picture. The actual food brought out does not justify $15. The chicken fingers were the kind you get at a pizzeria as were the french fries. Also, the chicken fingers were very small as seen in picture and the grease was not shook off the chicken fingers before they were sauced up as you can see the chicken fingers laying in the grease. The worst part of the chicken fingers though were they were under cooked a little as the chicken was hard and not soft. Also, the french fries were made a long time ago as they were not hot and kind of soggy so I could tell. I also advise you put the actual small menu online not the one on your website as the real menu does Not have sandwiches. Very disappointed in the food.

Menu, portions and prices are great. View for sunset is fabulous! Went for my birthday - no special even offered. Bar service could be better. Reviewed Public House in Wanakah, NY...Review posted at Hertel location

Horrible, horrible, horrible. I order French onion soup and a grilled chicken salad. OMG, I was so hopeful that this place would have good food. The French onion soup had pretty much no cheese, a full bay leave in it that landed in my mouth, and so much salt I could NOT eat it. They should call it salt soup not French onion. The salad was also horrible. The chicken had so much pepper on it, I could only taste the pepper and nothing else. The worst food on Hertal. The only reason I gave two stars is because the bartender was a very nice girl (didn't catch her name). The cook needs to go if this place is going to serve food.
