Athenian Greek Taverna Reviews
We recently placed an order with your restaurant and specifically requested no tomatoes due to my husband's severe allergy. Despite this, the food arrived covered in tomatoes—rendering it completely inedible. We understand mistakes happen, but this was not a minor oversight. This could have become a serious medical issue, and it was certainly a waste of money and a major inconvenience.
We’ve learned from this experience to clearly state "allergy" when making modifications...read full review
I have lived in Commack most of my life and have eaten at many restaurants. Greek Taverna’s atmosphere is delightful and the food is AMAZING. Family owned and operated by locals.. who make the experience even more memorable. Food and cocktails are awesome.A must try!

Athenian Greek Taverna offers large portions with authentic Greek flavor and freshness. Known as a family favorite, this Greek restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and delicious food, including incredible lamb, slightly burnt beef, and tasty chicken. Customers appreciate the traditional Greek dishes served here, often calling it "Mama Yaya's." The friendly staff and generous servings make it a popular choice, although some find it a bit pricey. Diners enjoy the complimentary orzo in red sauce with pita bread and yogurt sauce while waiting for their meals. The menu features favorites like Greek salad with grilled chicken, spinach pie, gyro, Kota ala Mykonos, and octopus. The saganaki, served on fire as tradition dictates, is a lovely start to the meal. The gyro is massive, tender, and flavorful, with spot-on tzatziki. A special appetizer with large slices of lemon/red sauce potatoes, grilled eggplant, onions, peppers, and a thick slice of feta with sliced tomatoes and spicy oil is highly recommended and often devoured with pita bread. Main courses include stuffed peppers and tomatoes with lemon potatoes, and chicken souvlaki with lemon potatoes and pita bread; portions are large but often lead to takeout. While some dishes are served with larger chunks of potato, the overall quality remains high. The restaurant hosts music and a singer outside in the evening, adding a nice touch. Service varies, with some staff being quick and polite, while others may seem unfriendly, possibly having an off day. The prices are reasonable, especially with coupons and cash discounts. Overall, Athenian Greek Taverna continues to impress guests with delicious food, generous portions, and a warm atmosphere.
