Really great place! Really wanted to try some authentic Japanese food again after returning from Japan and was thoroughly impressed by the food. The owners were great to talk to about their experience coming to America. Really inspiring. The Pork Katsudon was great!! I will definitely come back!

Takumi Japanese Restaurant is a small, family-run Japanese-speaking hole in the wall with around 18-20 seats and outdoor seating. It is perfect for a date night or a family meal. The food and sushi are outstanding, delicious, fresh, and of great quality and value. Specific dishes praised include the Nabeyaki Udon, Teriyaki shrimp, Beef Negimaki, gyoza, shrimp rolls with crab and crispies, deep fried California rolls, Halibut and Salmon sashimi, and the sushi pizza. Portions are sized perfectly for chopsticks, though some note the sushi rolls are a bit smaller than at other places. The service is friendly and attentive, and can be outstanding, but it can also be slow, especially when busy, with sometimes long waits for attention. Despite this, the experience is very good, and many would definitely go again and highly recommend this gem in San Carlos.
