Chinese/Taiwanese tea Mecca.
Fang Gourmet Tea is a small little tea shop in the heart of downtown Flushing, serving up premium quality teas directly from China.
No photos are allowed in the store, but they had a tea ceremony going on where you can taste the teas they pour, as well as selling quality tea sets that are of many different designs.
We sampled one of the teas and it was high quality, definitely similar to what we got from China. They have multiple types of tea for sale, which are all reasonably priced.
Helpful owner. I bought some great green tea. If it's very pricey for the teapots. But they have a great selection.
This is becoming a yearly pilgrimage for me. Do a few tastings; it will put a lift in your day. Shoutout to Mr. Shen, a charming, knowledgeable and skilled gong fu cha master.
amazing place for a date
Excellent experience - worth prioritizing in a trip to flushing
The best!!!!
A must-visit if you enjoy Chinese tea/teaware and gongfu brewing! The staff was so patient and kind with me as someone who is just starting out with tea and I learned so much just by chatting with them during my tastings.
I had an excellent tea tasting at Fang's. The tea itself was remarkable, and I left wanting to go back to try more. I went on my own, and for me the best part was having a rewarding conversation with the tea master (who I believe is the owner) about tea, life, and other things. Our conversation inspired me to explore other teas that I wasn't aware of, so I'm looking forward to going back, and I would recommend it to others, whether solo or in a small group.
Affordable tea tastings, wide variety of lovely teas, great knowledge and kindess! Highly recommend!
While the name of Fang Gourmet Tea rings familiar in my mind, I didn't give it much thought until it came highly recommended in a chat with another tea enthusiast. Despite my lack of preparation in making a reservation at least a day in advance on the official website, I took a chance, walked in, and asked if they had any availabilities for the day. Luckily, they had an empty time slot in around 40min, and to my great relief they made no fuss about my request.
In my quest to branch out from Phoenix oolongs, I asked for recommendations, and after mentioning a previous successful encounter with a Dong Ding Oolong, I settled on a Formosa Oolong. I had 5 gaiwan brews, and was pleasantly surprised to be asked whether I prefer lighter or stronger steepings. I asked to start with a lighter brew, but we also explored some stronger brews. I enjoyed the evolving interplay of floral, lychee (the comparison did get me a surprised but polite eyebrow raise), and honey notes. I asked about oxidation and roasting of this particular oolong, and after the 5th steeping, I was encouraged to feel the brewed leaves as a clue-in to roast level. We also took the opportunity to examine the leaves more in depth, and I enjoyed learning about the importance of the stem for Taiwanese teas and the process of handpicking tips with 3-4 leaves. As I was leaving, coat in hand (I've started waiting until I'm outside to put on my coat in small and busy spaces), the workers waved aside my worry and urged me to put my coat on first since it was so cold. I left feeling touched and happy from talking about tea with knowledgeable and friendly people, the fragrance of the tea lingering on my tongue for a good long while.

Wonderful and unique selection of Chinese teas and tea ware. They just started their annual tea expo this weekend. Got a free bag of white tea 🥳
Sip, feel, and explore the serene world of tea. Our annual Culture of Tea & Tea Ware Exhibition is about to begin. From 12/07/2024 to 01/19/2025, tea-tasting sessions are back by appointment only.
There is my favorite tangerine peel Pu'er. Old grapefruit tea (this type of tea has become an old culture)
In addition, I also recommend Gaoshan Yunwu Bird's Tongue Grade Green Tea
Beautiful hand crafted teaware and tea
