I've been meaning to try this place. Walked by several times since I get my haircut across the street. This place has been around for a while and every time I walk by in the evening it's quite packed. When I had some cousins visiting we finally decided to go here. It was a rainy Sunday and not too busy when we got there at about 6, but was pretty much packed by the time it was 7. They have a couple of small side dishes you can order which are about the size of a small bowl of rice but of course the big thing is to order the skewers. After you order your sauce and soup base you can go to the front of the store to pick your own skewers. Each stick is the same price, $0.59. Note that some skewers are more expensive, like the shrimp which is two skewers. Yes that means a skewer with a tiny leaf of napa is the same price as the small piece of meat. For a medium sized guy like me, you're looking at about a $40 meal to fill up. Service and food is average, nothing to write home about. I feel no need to go back to this place again.

I have always wanted to try this local specialty. But end up feeling extremely disappointed. The portion is small and the flavor is like your regular store brought hotpot flavor. Service is ok but that can't justify the price they charge. Be aware they charge 14$ for the soupbase! And it tastes nothing extraordinary.

My friend and I got the stomach upset after eating their food. The food is just spicy and not tasty. Very expensive. I will never go back there. So disappointed.

Very authentic! (Comments from my friend who was native Chengduer) How come the rating is so low?

I have been to their Chengdu (Sichuan) location before and it was delicious and a super popular spot in the city. Here's how it works: you pick your skewers from a fridge and they cook it for you and bring it to your table with a soup base. Their New York Restaurant is not as good as in Chengdu but still amazing and I love it. I really think it's underrated here on yelp. The pot base in nyc is not as spicy, the skewer selection is not nearly as diverse, and they don't serve rabbit dishes like they do in China. Still, there is something about the soup base flavor that gets me hooked and keeps me coming back. It's a different flavor profile than a Sichuan/Chongqing style hotpot - not as spicy but more complex and deep. And I find it especially satisfying picking up lots of skewers than ordering dishes. You might prefer a Chungking style spicy hotpot and I admit it might not be for everyone. But i love it.

super tasty food! flavors enhanced by adding dead FLY into the sauce. hmm yumk. the servers were attentive they aren’t to be blamed for the fly so one star for them. the sauce of the mungbean jelly was so good we took it home and mixed with rice! with the white rice finally the dark sauce shows it tru color. or shall we say true ingredients. 可能死蒼蠅是這些菜的秘密佐料吧。

The place is awesome!!! The same as the one in Chengdu!!! Super authentic. I don't understand why they have so low points!!!! It's definitely 5!!! Staff r super friendly, and the food came fast!!! We enjoy the meal a lot. Highly recommended to everyone loves spicy food!
