Both food and service were perfect. Most of us had the parmesan encrusted walleye, wow! Owner came to the table to check on our meal. We'll definitely be back soon.
The waitress was a Saint but she was over worked. One waitress waiting on 20 tables. The food was horrible. Tasteless, raw, overpriced and it left me disappointed. I waited for 2.5 hours before I ate and was dissatisfied with my food. I will never come to this establishment again. I would rather rate this zero stars but google won’t let me. Don’t come here you will regret it. And if our waitress is reading this, quit now and find a better job.
We had an amazing meal for our class reunion. The fish fry was superb and my husband said the chicken Alfredo was the best he’d ever had, and that’s a compliment since that’s his favorite meal!
Went with a party of six, the waitress did a great job and was personable. Most of us had the parmesan encrusted walleye and it was perfect. Dinner came with a nice salad, wild rice and some especially good carrots. We had plenty to eat and they had Southern Tier beer on tap. It doesn't get much better than that. I'm looking forward to going back.
I don't usually do reviews but $3 for that tiny glass of pop. Not to mention our waitress didn't come back until the end of our meal, but was very chatty and pleasant to the other guests and we were the only one served those small glasses. The chicken Alfredo was good but a small portion for what we paid. The only reason I am doing a 2 star is because the cook came and was pleasant. It was my first time there and disappointing
Ate outside. We too, experienced the 8 oz drink cups. So the previous reviewer was NOT wrong. Wasn't the 16 oz cups that EVERYONE else had for their fountain drinks! Waitress was obviously having a " bad day" as it seemed that she took it out on us. Never even asked if we wanted a refill. Food was ok....coleslaw was the best. Won't be back anytime soon.
Meal was good, basic. $3 pop served in 6 oz. cups w/ice. Service was horrible. Ate outside, we were only food table, few couples were having drinks. We asked twice for forgotten sides. Never received. Waitress never came over to ask how meal was, needed refills or something else. A different waitress brought our check. UPDATE: Restaurant replied 14 oz cups - they were DEFINITELY NOT 14 oz cups. They were the small, opaque, w/ribs size (kids party). If they would have been 14 oz. I would not have mentioned it. An apology would have been sufficient, a rebuttal is poor response in my opinion.
Took a chance and it was a nice experience. Food was good over all, service was good.We all got the prime rib on a Wednesday! Extra points for that. It was good and a normal price for the size.Seafood mushrooms, french onion soup and the side salad were also good no complaints. The knife was not very sharp, I would recommend going for the cuttco knives. This is my only issue with the evening.New managers are doing a good job. They are working out the kinks.I left feeling very full, nostalgic for the old restaurant I grew up with while loving the new setup. Also that I paid a high price but was not cheated compared to the new standard amongst other restaurants.I will be back
Arriving early evening we didn't have reservations. Having only opened for two days they are working out some kinks. We are seated in the first room of the original building, four of us this evening. My wife orders the veggie burger advertised as the 'impossible burger' and is disappointed pointed when it arrives as a standard style veggie. My wife informs them of this confusion. The burger is presented with the pickle on top, which brings a smile when it arrives. I order the salmon meal with baked potato. My blackened salmon is cooked nicely with a crusty bite to it and arrives with a few springs of asparagus. The baked potato is cooked perfectly with sour cream and butter served on the side. The side salad is fresh with blue-cheese dressing on the side.Overall we're satisfied with the meal and service, and especially knowing this is their second night open. I can recommend to give them a try and see how they progress. It's a good start overall with a few things to work out.
I normally don't write reviews, especially unfavorable ones but how can things improve if no one speaks up? First, the staff were very pleasant and friendly. We got their signature appetizer (Nikolbread) and it was cold throughout the center. The steak was okay and the baked potato was old, re-heated, and barely warm. We used to love going here but were disappointed in this trip. ?

The appetizers were delicious. The meals were filling and had great flavor. We left very satisfied. Ate at the outdoor bar and the bartender was trying out some new drinks. The strawberry lada (or whatever the name she called it) was smooth and refreshing. We are definitely going back. Sitting outside by the waterfall was very relaxing. They also had cornhole and Jenga games to play outside. Very nice setup. Service was phenomenal.
We made reservations for Mother’s Day, but were not told that they had a special menu that night, weren’t offering their normal selections. They were out of one of the menu items and it was only 6pm, but again they didn’t tell us that when they sat us or when the waitress took our drink order, we didn’t know until I tried to order it. Once we arrived it took them a long time to seat us even though the restaurant wasn’t full and they were expecting us. All 3 of our meals came out at VERY different times, each person was eating alone, otherwise our food would have been cold by the time everyone had their meal. I ordered wine and the pour was very small, I asked if it was a normal pour and she said “no I just need to open another bottle, but I don’t know how so it may take a hot minute”. In my opinion she should have told me that when she set the glass down, I shouldn’t have had to ask. When I ordered my second glass she just brought the bottle to the table and poured it in front of me which I’ve never seen at a restaurant before, usually they pour at the bar and bring to your table. Finally, she asked if we wanted dessert and then the check before we had finished our meal. I know help is hard to find and good help is really hard to find, but this who experience was very disappointing.
While the food was decent, our service was subpar. The server wasn't very attentive and forgot an appetizer, one of the sides for one of our meals, and the parmesan cheese for the spaghetti. We weren't sure whether it was a miscommunication with the kitchen staff but, either way, better service could have made the experience that much better. Also, it was very warm inside. I will definitely give it another try. It's understood that there are growing pains when a new restaurant launches. And I hope that some of these kinks get worked out, as the owners of this restaurant have a great opportunity to bring a nice dinner option back to the area.
The food was excellent. We did have a wait, because they were absolutely packed! It was only night 3 for them. I'm sure they will find their stride and the next visit will be 5 star. They've done a great job shi ing the place up but keeping the original character. Owners couldn't be nicer.
I am so sad to only give 2 stars. i was soooooo hopeful this would be an awesome night with awesome food. The Nickel is near and dear to us. We had been customers there for 40 years. To start, The man who greeted us at the door was less than friendly and welcoming. Then, there was quite a wait for drinks and food. We can get past the long wait for our drinks and meal ( it was 2 1/2 hours total we were there) as we understand help calling off and not being able to hire staff. But, mediocre food - no, sorry. That cannot happen if you are going to make it. Your food has to be outstanding - something that draws people and makes them want to drive that distance. I had the stuffed mushrooms and prime rib and while it wasn't the worst thing I have eaten, it was definitely nothing to brag about. The prime rib needs to be seasoned! My husband had the broiled seafood platter. Same thing - mediocre. None of us in our party of 4 are saying oh gosh i can't wait to go back. Nic and Linda made the Nic L Inn successful because of three things - their outstanding food. Their atmosphere. Their personable, friendly treatment of their customers. We are hopeful that any negative reviews are taken as constructive criticism and applied so that the restaurant can become a place where we do want to dine frequently.
