If you like beer or wine they have a large menu, not so much on mixed drinks. This is very apparent when they are making them. In regards to treatment, other people that came in after us received their drinks before us. Menu is extremely limited and it is not printed but you do get mashed potatoes and veggie with your steaks. Make sure you tell your waitress you would like the bread and butter, as it was being served to other tables, but if not stated on menu as incuded or if you do not ask for it (even with steak dinners?!?) they are not concerned with providing it. Our steaks were nothing special ( I ordered a NY strip, so did my husband) but expensive for what it was. Our recon mission is completed. We will not be bringing family from out of the area here, it is just not at all what it is supposed to be, allegedly a great steakhouse.
Went in without reservation but they didn’t have a lot of tables filled. We were sat in the corner of the bar after a couple min. We ordered fairly quickly from a very sparse menu . Main course took about an hour to come out (we ordered a bruschetta appetizer which was good). My son ordered a fried chicken sandwich which came out inedible from being overcooked. My gf had sliced steak, which was cooked very nicely but the potatoes were closer to glue than food. My burger was ok, a bit close to a hockey puck than I had hoped but edible enough. Doubtful we’ll return, but stopped on a whim and figured we’d give it a whirl.
Not a very large menu, very limited on choices abd NO Heineken
Love the ambiance here. Food was good and our server was very knowledgeable. (Can't remember his name)
We showed up on Valentine’s Day without a reservation and were able to get a spot at the bar. The bartender, Heather, was excellent, as was the food.
Food wasn't bad nice size restaurant back area is nice
Good food & lovely atmosphere, but a limited menu.
We were coming from Miami for a few days, we text a reservation request 5 days before asking for 7pm Saturday. A couple days before we got a text back saying we’re booked in for 7pm.
Saturday at 5.20pm I get a call from the restaurant saying I had a reservation for 5pm and am I still coming. I told them it was for 7pm but she very rudely said it wasn’t it was for 5pm. She then said do we want to come at 7 instead. I said yes that’s the time we requested, I have the text message.
We arrived at the restaurant and they asked my name, she then silently lead us to a table in a dark corner (there were plenty other tables available) and as we sat I showed her the texts but she still went on to argue it wasn’t changed. But I said it was always 7pm.. she just snorted well I don’t know what happened. No apology for being rude. The food was ok. I had the pork chop and it was very chewy. The flavor was nice but hard to eat a fairly tough pork chop swimming in a bowl of watery grits. My daughter had roasted salmon which was again ok. I expected a nicer friendlier place, but quite frankly except for our servers the atmosphere was really not welcoming.
Always a great meal! The servers truly know the menu, and I believe
stand in for the chef! Ours explained the meals' ingredients and techniques in great detail. The ambiance was also enhanced by the beautiful fireplace that took the chill out of the cool fall evening.
One of the finest out of the way joints I ever been to! The food is great, the beer is plentiful & the folks about as warm & friendly as they can get Upstate NY!
Restaurantji Recommends
Food ok staff ok pretty expensive
I'm not going to lie. I've been wanting to go here for awhile. Finally decided to take my gf out for her birthday here. It was recommended to make reservations so I did. Set reservations for 7. We showed up 10 minutes early and our table wasn't ready. As a matter of fact they had us sit at the bar until our table was ready. We didn't get sat until 7:25. I'd understand if it was busy but the restaurant was half full. Plenty of tables. The whole time we sat waiting nobody checked in with us. When we finally got a table it was in the back corner of the restaurant where we couldn't view any of the aesthetics of the restaurant. Somehow the restaurant opens at 5:00 but yet they were all out of ribs and only had one salmon left. The food selection was very small but plenty of alcohol choices. I ordered the lobster and shrimp Mac and cheese. $30 for 1 medium piece of lobster and maybe 5 very tiny pieces of shrimp. I mean dang at least use medium shrimp. $10 for a small French onion soup. French onion soup is poor man's soup. Its literally onion , broth, cheese, and bread. I've worked in many restaurants and that's ridiculous. Then my gf finished her soup and we finished our bread, tell me how the waitress cleared the bowl of soup but left the empty bread dish. I'm very disappointed. Over priced, limited menu, and mediocre service at best. Worst part is this was for my girlfriend's birthday.
Whether we are celebrating a milestone birthday or just out for a low key dinner, Rick and his team always get it right. So much care goes into sourcing each ingredient and creating a truly special small town dining experience.
The staff at C ‘n B always go above and beyond to make sure my family has the best experience possible. Food and service is always great. LOVE their BBQ!!
Unfortunately, I had an extremely unpleasant experience this past weekend at the Cock n Bull, a restaurant my family and I have patronized for years and have always considered a beloved local gem.
As a restaurant we have enjoyed going to in the past, my family decided to request a reservation to celebrate a birthday dinner. On Wednesday 9/3, I reached out to the restaurant via their text line, “Hi there! I’d like to make a reservation for 9/6 6pm 4 people. Please let me know if you have availability!” The message back was, “Hi! We have one table left.. could I call you now for a cc number?” As someone with restaurant experience, I didn’t think twice, as many establishments in the area require credit card holds for reservations on weekends or for larger parties. I was told that we were getting the last table, and asked if we could come at a little earlier instead and agreed on a 5:45 reservation. The woman on the phone took my credit card number and that was the end of the conversation. Looking at my phone records, this incoming call lasted one minute.
Fast forward to Friday 9/6, we arrive at the restaurant and the parking lot has a sign that says they are closed for a private event. I am immediately confused and check my text to make sure I asked for the correct date, which I did. Apparently there was a band playing, and they were charging $40 a person that night. This information was not disclosed to me. Had this information been disclosed, I would not have made the reservation as we were just looking to have dinner (and there was a limited menu that night due to the music), and had other plans later that evening. Regardless, we decided to stay, hoping to catch some of the music before we had to leave. Unfortunately, no music played from the time we arrived at 5:45 until we left at 7:30.
The service from our waitress was excellent and the food was subpar. The manager on-site was unwilling to address the situation during our visit.
On Sunday 9/8, I called the restaurant to discuss the confusion in the $171 (40$ per person plus tax) they had charged my credit and was appalled with the conversation I had with their manager, Andrea, who stated that she took my reservation. The manager was headstrong, insisting that she did tell me how much the charge was and that they don’t typically take credit cards for a reservation. I reiterated several times that this information was never provided to me. No apology, refund or compensation for a show we never saw or knew was happening was offered or provided. Instead, when I mentioned that I would be sharing this experience with others, she replied, “We look forward to not having your business here again,” and hung up on me.
This response, witnessed by my family on speakerphone, was not only shocking but deeply disappointing, especially from a place we’ve supported over the years. Rather than rectify their mistake, they’ve lost not only our future business but that of many friends and family members.
