If after your trip to IKEA, Theodore Roosevelt Home, or Jones Beach you would like to treat yourself to a surviving piece of Long Island History, the Sweet Shop on Broadway is just that place. A minute or two walk from the Hicksville train station, the sweet shop has stood the test of time for good reason; Seventy years ago people enjoyed quality natural food, in a spotless location, cooked and served by friendly and capable staff at reasonable prices,,, and still can here at...

I got a chocolate ice cream soda but it was more like a milkshake. It was milk, chocolate syrup, and maybe 2 spoons of chocolate ice cream with some whipping cream on top. It had no carbonated liquid in it. I didn’t like it.

The service was also bad. Forget about a neutral attitude, the employees were borderline annoyed at me being there.

The one thing I did like was the classic diner look it had when I walked in. The guy that made my “soda”...
