I found this place 9 years ago for my 40th birthday this month. I was blown away on the food and service. I returned on May for my brother's birthday and still amazing. Then returned the following year and the food turned 180°. Was so disappointed, I asked the hostess what happened and she had said the owner had changed chiefs. I have never returned and reading these reviews doesn't look like it has gotten any better. So sad

Sadly, this place has taken a turn since being sold in January 2018. We waited almost 2 hours for our entree. Our daughter ordered chicken schnitzel off the children's menu...She was served pork. Pork schnitzel isn't offered to children. The owner's son sat behind us visiting with a couple for 45 minutes while we couldn't get anyone to refill our water. That couple proceeded to not even be served all they ordered. We were HUGE Black Forest Mill fans. Came several Saturdays a month to listen to Linny and have a great meal. They've not rehired Linny, and well after TWO HOURS even if it were a good meal I no longer had the appetite to enjoy it.

Three of us went there. Very disappointed. I had the beef goulash, the meat was hard. All of our mash potatoes were chunky and hard. My daughter's meatloaf was so dry and hard. The apple strudel was okay. My daughter's chocolate cake had no flavor and was stale. The only good thing was the beer .Really went down hill from our last visit.

I don't know what's happened to this restaurant in the past three years we've been coming here but it has been a downward slope with every visit. I'm afraid this one will be my last. The service was lax despite only having two other tables with 2 people each. Our drinks were never refilled till we asked for more water with dessert. The food was very underwhelming and the menu seems to have dramatically shrunk from its previous offerings. The descriptions were even gone, leaving one to Google what was in a dish before ordering. My friend's meatloaf was extremely rubbery as if it had been over-mixed to hell and back. My chicken schnitzel was just "meh" at best. The highlight of the meal was the spaetzel and that's sad to say. Also, where you used to get a large family style portion of potato salad and coleslaw to share, was now served in a teeny tiny dish. I just felt my $45 could of been more well spent elsewhere and I'm sorry to say that because I really used to enjoy this place. Always brought our out of town guests here because the experience was so fun and enjoyable. So sad it's changed so dramatically.

Nice German restaurant. Staff was helpful with suggestions and really accommodating. A customer that was leaving as we were entering told me that the food was amazing and to make sure we tried the cauliflower appetizer. Everything we ate was authentic, flavorful and you can tell the chef takes a lot of pride in their work. That pork was perfect!! We met the owner as she toasted some marshmallows at the fireplace. The restaurant was close to closing and she had some leftover. She offered for us to toast some too. It was super friendly and I felt at home. I can't wait to return and have more items off their menu. I'll definitely have to get their potato pancakes again because they rocked! Yum yum yum!

Rather disappointed with the new change in ownership. Called to make a reservation and specifically asked if the accordion player would be there. Was told “yes”, but arrived to find that he wouldn’t be there. Very disappointing because I took mom there on a night when the accordion player was supposed to be there. Also, new ownership has whittled down their menu... no more snail soup, for starters.

As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted right away. We requested to sit next to the fireplace and were seated in a cozy corner seat. The waitress was very friendly and suggested the cauliflower appetizer special and the pork tenderloin/ roast. Appetizers: Cauliflower sautéed with onion and herbs, then breaded and fried. Served with marinara sauce. Potato Pancakes served with applesauce. German potato salad Coleslaw Green salad Bread basket Onion soup Everything was delicious! We loved the flavor of the cauliflower. What a great combination with the marinara sauce! The potato pancakes were flavored well and had a perfect crunch! The applesauce that accompanied it was tasty and you can tell it was made with love. We really enjoyed the German potato salad but what stopped us in our tracks was the dressing on the green salad; we couldn't figure it out! It was so good. I tasted a smokiness and really want the recipe but it's a family secret. Darn! lol Dinner: Pork loin/roast with a potato dumpling, red cabbage and creamed spinach. Awesome! The pork was juicy and the gravy was delicious. The dumpling with the gravy.. yum!! I really loved the creamed spinach too. Dessert: Apple strudel Ruedesheim Coffee The apple strudel has a great balance and was served warmed with a scoop of ice cream and whipped cream. It tasted so good and we loved the raisins inside. The coffee/brandy was strong and warmed me right up! We look forward to returning. Next time I'm going to try their Wurst Platter and Chicken Liver Patte.

We came to the restaurant on a whim and saw the 4.1 Google review and took the gamble without reading the recent written reviews. Unfortunately we didn't get the entree until 9:15 when we had arrived at 7:15. We ended up eating about two bites and were pretty disheartened by the poor quality of the food. The server was very nice and went to get approval to take a little off from the bill since we barely ate but we ultimately paid full price. I've actually never sent back a dish at a restaurant or complained when it wasn't what I expected so it was hard to tell them that we were dissatisfied since we aren't picky eaters and don't want to make a fuss. They did offer to give us a free dessert but by then it was late and we thought it best to pass. I don't recommend this restaurant sadly.

I have been here several times however new ownership is not going to keep this place open long. Sat at the bar, it was a Friday night and not busy, bar pretty empty. Bartender turned out to be the owner. Terrible slow service even for water. Ordered bar food and the German potato salad arrived room temperature not warmed like it should be the bratwurst was boiled not grilled the saue5was from a jar. Nothing good to say except my date was fun company. Got up to leave and the chair fell apart. Sad. Previos owner and chef so much better. Doubt they will be in business much longer.

Found a piece of sharp plastic in my goulash. In the second occasion, found either a string or wool type of a thread in my beer. Disgusting! Never again!

We had a good dinner at Black Forest. We all ordered the pretzels which are huge. One could serve 2-3 people. At $12 they are worth the price. The potato pancakes were the best I ever had. Service was a bit slow but overall enjoyed our meal. The live performer made our night.

Absolutely the worst, negative comments to numerous to list. Only positives, the accordion player, the door on the way out. Owner must have a lot of relatives, or uses Reputation Defender only explanation for so many good reviews. Check it out at your own peril!

First time back since it reopened and I wasn't impressed. Very slow service even though the place was not full. Took over 30 minutes to get drinks and over 70 minutes to get our main entrée. Quality of food was average. Overall it wasn't a good experience.

I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend who has had authentic German food her whole life thinking I could impress her. To start off they wouldn't take my restaurants.com coupon, because the new owners do not accept it. The only thing that tasted good was the Sprite that I had. I would not be able to explain the salad dressing that they put on that salad, maybe they sprayed it with cooking oil and air freshener, but it was awkward. The potato salad in the coleslaw did not taste fresh. The potato pancakes tasted like they were bathed in oil instead of fried in oil, but somehow still way over crunchy. And the mushroom soup tasted like some sort of body fluid. We did order entrees, but after what we tasted we decided to leave and not chance it anymore. Lenny was good on the accordion other than that it was a bad experience.
