The choices at JFK's terminal 1 are pretty limited. The beers on tap are mostly by the numbers, and the food probably got warmed up in a turbo atmosphere. It's probably better (and possibly cheaper) that what you will get on a plane, but it isn't hard to find somewhere that does better quality, better prepared food, even in a bar. Great quick service right before my boarding group was called, nicely decorated for an airport establishment, good drink selection and an attentive server who made my brief visit pleasant.

You're at JFK terminal 1. The choices are not good. This place outside would suck. Here, you shoud feel lucky. Service is okay but often there is only one server with long wait times. The food is expectedly over priced and nothing great. Be nice, be patient, shut up and eat. Or bring your own food and sit at the gate. Beer selection is good.
