White Bear Restaurant

We were one of four tables occupied when we arrived. Waited over 10 minutes to even be acknowledged by a server. We ordered ribeyes medium rare for our entree and they came out medium well and as tender as shoe leather. The waitress offered to replace ONE of them “to bring home”. Shortly thereafter the second steak arrived in a to go container. We asked for a check and paid $90 to NOT EAT. Much better dining than this in Placid!!! I recommend you stay far away.

From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave, everything is absolutely outstanding!
The staff, especially the waiters, are incredibly friendly, kind, and professional — they truly make every guest feel welcome and cared for.
The food is delicious, the portions are huge and generous, and you can taste the effort and love put into every meal.

It was a terrible experience for me. The server was kinda rude (or maybe that’s just how he is). We asked questions like “how big is the portion for the pasta?” and he looked at me like I’m a crazy person to ask that and said “1 person” (but i ordered 1 to share because I don’t believe him). And I was right! It was huge.

The food was ok, it was greasy tho. And the atmosphere there is just bad. I feel like they wanted us to leave ASAP. They didn’t want us there.

As a tourist and a person who works in hotel and restaurant industry, i don’t recommend this place.

We called ahead for a reservation this afternoon and when we arrived for dinner, we were told that they didn’t have any tables for us. We watched them cross our name off the reservation sheet, so it wasn’t an oversight, just blatant disregard for the customer. They sat us at the bar, gave us two different menus, and then we were ignored for ten full minutes without even as much as a water. We left without ordering since nobody could be bothered to acknowledge us. We ate at the Black Bear (which has the exact same menu and employees, so we suspect the same owner) a few days earlier, and the food was mid at best. Would not recommend

Yesterday my family and I took a ride up to the Adirondacks to go to White Face mountain. We were hungry when we came down into Lake Placid and saw that this restaurant had a porch looking over the mountains and decided to stop. I noticed that the place wasn't very busy but didn't think much of it, we were allowed to sit on the porch and the view was indeed beautiful. When the water came the carafe contained some floating insects so we ask the waiter to remove it. As we looked over the menus I noticed that the options were pretty run of the mill and a little disappointed that there weren't better options on the menu. I ordered the chicken caesar salad while my two children ordered spaghetti and meatballs. I also ordered an appetizer called a spedini which sounded good in its description in the menu. When the food arrived the chicken on the ceasar salad was cold and uncooked and had no flavor, there was hair in one of the meatball dishes and the speedini was a terrible mixture of cheap undercooked mozzarella sticks with what seemed to me like a concoction of frozen mushrooms and red peppers not fully cooked and soaked in a poutine gravy. It was unappetizing to say the least. We had 3 sodas and the bill was over $90. I did not eat my food, the kids stopped eating thiers upon finding the hairs. I paid the bill and left I will never return to this place, nor will I be recommending to anyone.

We had dinner 4 days ago, got there right after they opened. The food was good, service was great, a little pricey for the food. 3 drinks and two meals the bill was $113.00

I left a positive review 4 months ago but I feel compelled to update it because this place has gone down hill over the last couple months. Service has been horrible recently and the food is just as bad. I would avoid this restaurant now and we won't be going back.

We found this little gem of a restaurant after a long day of adventuring. Called as we drove by in search of a place to eat as 2 other places had an hour long wait time, they were able to get us right in. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The chicken tortellini sauce was amazing! The eggplant parm portion size was plentiful and we enjoyed a window seat with a sunset view.

Pricey for the level of service and quality of food.

I ordered an old fashioned and it came with ice chips and not cubes and was not well made. When the average price of a plate is over $30 I expect more.

The waiter asked us what we wanted to order before we even placed our drink order. Specials were not explained or even talked about.

Steak came out over cooked and was ”ok” at best. Service was lacking throughout the visit. Sour cream was in a plastic cup… Again, I expect more for the cost.

I watched a family get seated and not even receive water. They got up and left after about 15 minutes.

Honestly, I’d skip it and go somewhere else.

Beautiful restaurant with beautiful food and great service. The outdoor seating had an amazing view. They were friendly to our dog and brought him plenty of water. Kind people with a great restaurant .
