In a word.... RUSTIC.
Our party of five stopped in for a late lunch. Coming from New Jersey where diners are a mainstay, we could be tough critics. We were pleasantly surprised with everything we ordered.
We ordered two chese steaks with peppers and onions, two cheeseburgers, a turkey club, and a cup of soup. The soup was tasty, and everything else was exactly what we wanted. The rolls were fresh and nicely toasted. The lettuce and tomato were fresh. The french fries were hot and crispy.
The bar area (closed at the time) could use a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint.

Incredibly unfriendly person... on a road trip we are not allowed takeout, not allowed to buy anything and use the restroom. Creepy and very bad for the town's ambiance and reputation. Actually scary. Same at the Citco. No bathroom usage. Says out of order. Shocking. Good-bye.

Lord where do I start. Antiquated run down facilities, sorry looking food, with an owner as happy as a mortician.

Staff was very rude upon just walking in to be seated. The entire place reeked of cigarettes and the situation for water is pretty gross. A decade old, crusty plastic water pitcher with Dixie cups. The food came out fast but the waitress had no care to place it in front of us and just dumped it at each end of the table. The food was not good and the potatoes looked like they were straight from a can and then boiled. Waitress was so unbothered with us that when asking her for a bill, she asked “who’s your waitress.” The place was 90% cleared by this point. Very happy to leave, I get small town diners and the vibes, but filthy and rude is pretty unacceptable.

I’m writing this review for 2 reasons. I see hate and negative comments in this thread that DO NOT reflect my experiences at this establishment. I also find this place to be an absolute gem all run by one of the best families I’ve ran into ever. Jan Pekny is an absolute sweetheart. The pain she’s had to endure recently has broken my heart and yet, she still pushes on to give people fantastic service as well as starting a beautiful fundraiser in honor of her beautiful son that has passed. People don’t know what true heart and soul is when they see it. It lies here at the Robin Hood diner. It was a pleasure meeting her family all whom care so much about their business. The signs people speak of, are fun. It’s the point. If you don’t have even a shred of humor in your body, maybe go elsewhere. I can’t wait to go back. Best breakfast I’ve had along with some of the best coffee as well. 2 times I’ve been to this please in the matter of 3 weeks all while I’m seeing terrible reviews that DO NOT reflect this establishment. I love these people and what they stand for and for what they’re offering to their community. This diner deserves to live on forever. Don’t hesitate to stop into this place that is overflowing with heart. While you’re at it, ask one of these beautiful people how that diner came to be and I’m sure it will bring a smile to your face. I love the Robin Hood diner and the family that runs it! I can’t wait to go back and enjoy the amazing food and company at the Robin Hood Diner!

We loved the real old vibe of the diner. We've eaten a really good breakfast which was well needed after a rainy camping night.

To say that the place Is bad is an understatement. There are at least a dozen different violations. It is literally a nightmare in every way...but I do not put the blame completely on the restaurant owners. This time it was obvious to me that the family who is trying to run this restaurant are in a huge financial and emotional distress. Somethong big must have happened and affected the family that owns the restaurant... I do not know what it is, but I am sure that it is so. My heart goes out to them...I am waiting them ad one star, because it is what the restaurant is now, and my waiting might prevent a disaster... The town or Livingston Manor must have a proper business administration/organization at their city hall. The town must have genuinely professional accountants, restaurant owners, market research experts, basic social services... It looks to me that the town completely neglects it's townsfolk. The town does not take care of its own. By the way--- the roads...awful!! Very sad. The Robin Hood Diner building is a fire trap. It is falling apart. The people working in it are exactly like the structure of their diner. Very sad, shame on the town of Livingston Manor for this kind of neglect. If you did not shut down this place, that needs to be shut down BEFORE a visitor/guest dies or gets injured there...THEN COME AND HELP THEM!
I brought my disabled husband there today for breakfast. The handicap ramp is out of service. The existing stairs have a roof above them that is propped up, about to collapse!!! The other entrance with railings are crambling... we had a very very hard time getting my husband's walker in. The food was awful... everything was raw... the prices that do not cover their supply expenses. They obviously have no idea how much a diner like that charges today... no credit cards are accepted... the stuff are dusgrunteled, trying their best...dirty t-shirts, dirty jeans...
We should have left. But we stayed, I paid a 30% tip...maybe that would help a bit...

Great home fries!!
Food was decent, service was fine. This place seems like it's about to close though. Tried to get dinner pretty early in the night, but we were told to go to the bar because the restaurant portion was closed. The bar staff was nice and kept my glass full.
