This hole in the wall spot is pumping out some great dishes. So the way it works you pick out whatever fresh seafood you want , bag each item separately and keep In mind everything is weighed . Some items are a bit pricy so keep that in mind it’s by the lb . After you had made you choices you bring them to the counter and you can choose how you would like it cooked along with a choice of simple seasonings . So definitely ask what your options are . You can also order some sides like rice, salad and a few other Greek options . Once you have completed that they will seat you . Communal tables so be friendly to your neighbor 😉. This really was a great place we really enjoyed it .

I did not want to write this review, but here I am after a very unpleasant first time at Astoria Seafood and the waiter Vinny taunting us to write a google review. WE WAITED 1 HRS AND 10 MINUTES JUST FOR SEAFOOD from when our order was placed and went after the dinner rush. We did not order any sides or salads and they also do not tell you about the complimentary garlic bread, which you then have to ask for it. When asked why many other tables were getting their seafood first (not salad or potatos) when we ordered the same thing and ordered 30 minutes before them, they could not come up with a valid reason to defend themselves. Besides the poor service, the food was great, just not worth the 1 hr 10 minute wait, and reminding them 3 times on the food status just for them to say it's almost ready each time. I don't want to assume that it is other factors besides operational failure here since the cashier (tall curly hair) weighing the seafood was a legend. He greeted us well and deserves a raise. I would not be returning and would only recommend this place if you have a large group that is ready to get loud, drunk, and rowdy.

This is a simple and unpretentious place, but the seafood is fresh and delicious. You can buy fresh seafood and even have it cooked for you right there. The food is well prepared, and the prices are reasonable. If you’re looking for fresh seafood without a fancy atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit.

You come to this place to buy to take with you but you can most definitely have the staff here cook it for you to dine-in or for to go. They cook the food quite well. Quite usually, this place is packed.

This place is amazing! The process of choosing fresh fish yourself and also how it is cooked is great! The service is also great. Go on a warm day and sit outside. They don’t serve alcoholic beverages but you can bring your own beer!
This place is truly awful, I regretted my decision to go the second I walked in the door and wish I had eaten elsewhere.
To start, the entire place was FILTHY, there was garbage and food all over the floor. On the right were communal tables, on the left were prepared food cases that clearly have not been cleaned since they opened in 2012. Nothing in the case looked fresh or appetizing in the least, it looked like it was sitting all day. I wish I left right then and there but my friend was excited to go.
The place was a madhouse with no organization. There was no protocol, you had to go all the way back to check in and pick your fish. After choosing, you bring your seafood to the counter and let them know how you would like it cooked. No way to tell who worked there and who didint.
We ended up sitting outside. First we got our greek salad which was good. This was followed by the side of lemon potatoes we ordered which were served whole. They forgot our drinks so we had to remind them. The waitstaff is rude and dismissive. My friends shrimp came out 15 minutes after the potatoes, and finally my clams came out 20 minutes after my friends meal did, so we did not get to eat together. I had chosen a 12 clams, only 9 came and they were swimming in oil and wine with uncooked chopped onion.
Finally we got the garlic bread at the END of the meal, just as we were getting up to leave, even though we continuously asked throughout the meal and saw it being served to other tables.
Needless to say I will never return to this restaurant, it was so disgusting that I don't even want to walk by it. Save your money and go to a decent, clean restaurant.

I truly appreciate the consistently excellent service, delicious food, and great atmosphere. Everything you serve is fresh and flavorful. Genuinely such a colossal mess from the get go. The ordering process was so confusing and there are zero instructions unless you happen to overhear from someone or straight up ask another person in line. The restaurant is so packed that it’s an Olympic sport to try and make your way to the back where you pick out the fish you want. The rest of the ordering and paying process is relatively self explanatory but seating is another feat, because it’s not self seating. We were first told there was a separate line to get seated, then we were told to go upstairs to get seated. We arrive in the upstairs area—which should be noted is someone’s living room/kitchen(?)—and are told by yet another server to look for a seat and sit wherever is empty. So obviously we sit down just to be yelled at by another server to get up and wait. So we wait. All in all, took us maybe 20 minutes to get seated. Now, since we already placed our order before seating, we expected the food to get served relatively soon, considering twenty minutes had passed. Our first dish was served forty minutes after the order had been placed. The dish in question was a Greek salad, which we saw being prepared in bulk. The next dishes came out one by one across the span of an hour. At that point we are around 2 hours into the meal, and we are still missing two items. Keep in mind every time I’ve asked the server for something he’s acted extremely inconvenienced, and considering how long the other dishes took to come out, I thought it was just a matter of time before we received the last dish. After another ten minutes, he comes up and confirms that we’ve gotten all our dishes, and I tell him what we’re still missing two items. He proceeds to get upset and ask me why I didn’t tell him earlier, though he clearly didn’t want us to bother him. He rushes off to get the last dish. He arrives with the clams, but no shrimp (our two missing items). I tell him we’re still missing shrimp. We eat the clams! After yet another ten minutes, he brings a plate of shrimp, but not the right kind of shrimp. So I tell him it’s the wrong shrimp, and he tells me to talk to the chef myself, because he “doesn’t want to deal with this bullshit.” I go down to talk to the chef, and am told the second shrimp was never ordered. We gave the cashier our shrimp, but he forgot to write it down and charge it, so it was never a part of our order. Unsure how we would have known, because he never confirmed our order, nor did we get a receipt. We just assumed they would cook it since we gave it to them with the rest of the fish. Anyhow, the chef and cashier were both very nice about it, and since we weren’t charged for the shrimp, we just let it go. We go back to our table to prepare to leave because now I am done with this bullshit, just to be approached by the server yet again. He asks us if we figured it out, and proceeds to tell me that sometimes the order gets mixed up when we put different types or shrimp in the same bag (because we got two types), and because I picked out the shrimp myself, I tell him we, in fact, did put it in two separate bags. He brushes us off without any acknowledgement of their mistake. Absolutely horrendous service and mid expensive seafood. The best dishes were the potatoes and the calamari, but they certainly were not good enough to excuse everything wrong with this place. I completely understand this place is incredible understaffed and all the servers are trying their best, but it just felt like they were mad at us for being customers with expectations of the bare minimum from the start. Felt very unwelcome in this establishment, so was a bummer we were there for a whole three hours!

Good vibe, dynamic, attentive services, full of customers! You pick and direct how your seafood be prepared. The prices are economical than eating at a regular seafood restaurant. If you like picking out your own seafood, noisy, cramped seats, rough environment to have a meal, give this place a try. It's one of it's kind!
