Really good traditional style japanese food. Be prepared to wait a long time for everything. There's one server for like 20 tables.

Honzen takes traditional Japanese set meals to a new level with their elevated Honzen Ryori Set.
Each dish is a quiet celebration of seasonality, simplicity, and intention.
Perfect for those who appreciate the art of slow dining.

I have eaten here twice, and both times the food quality was superb. It’s a very unique menu system, where you choose the main seafood donburi, and the all the side dishes come with it. Both seafood and the side dishes are authentic and fresh.

At Honzen - Japanese Eatery, every bite feels like a love letter from Japan (sealed with uni and wagyu).
🥇 Uni Caviar Tuna Toast
Crispy, buttery, over-the-top in the best way. Tuna + Hokkaido uni + caviar = the holy trinity of indulgence. You’ll want to marry this toast.
🥈 Uni Don
Ocean vibes only. Creamy uni, glistening ikura, rich toro — one spoonful and you might cry happy tears. We almost did.
🥉 Hotate
Pan-seared Hokkaido scallops that say, “I’m delicate, sweet, and totally unforgettable.”
🍱 Every Honzen set is a beautifully choreographed symphony of savory, sweet, bitter, and sour — rooted in the grace of Kaiseki tradition…
🌿 Plus, the tatami seating? Cozy, calming, and perfect for pretending you live in a peaceful Kyoto tea house (instead of chaotic NYC).
💡Hot tips:
– Book ahead, seats go fast
– Uni Toast is non-negotiable
– Come hungry, leave emotionally attached

Overall the food was amazing. Only downside with my meal was the scallops. I didn’t think the scallop was worth the price as the main meal. Everything else was top notch.

I had a great evening at Honzen, a Japanese restaurant that serves an exquisite version of a set meal.
The place has a great relaxed vibe where I was served a well balanced multi course Japanese Kaiseki meal.

My husband and I went here for a date and we were really excited because we have been having a hard time finding an authentic kaiseki restaurant in NYC comparable to what we had in Japan. We discovered the restaurant through social media so initially I was kind of nervous because I’ve been to my fair share of IG food spots that were disappointing. But thankfully, this place was everything that I could have hoped for and more!! For starters, the food was so good!! Everything was thoughtfully curated and tasted fresh and flavorful. The individual components of each meal set were so beautiful that I almost didn’t want to eat it! You could tell that the ingredients were really fresh. In addition, the sake menu was top notch. The service was also really nice, and the owner even stopped by to ask us how we were enjoying the meal. He recommended a yuzu sake that was so delicious and had the perfect amount of sweetness. He also mentioned that they source their sake directly from Japan and their selection is not available to buy in NY elsewhere.
All in all, Honzen was such a great experience- from the food to the ambience and every thing in between. We will definitely be back!

Overall a mediocre experience for the price. The meal was $180 for the two of us, and it’s a typical Japanese set food. The mains we got were the cod and waygu, and it just did not impress.
