Had a delicious dinner sitting on outdoor patio. Started with the Street corn carrots which was fabulous ( I have to get the recipe! ) . scollops were great. Shepherd pie very good and Ribeye excellent. Large portions. Not a fan of their special dessert with shortbread, toffee and bananas but others at the table liked it. Will definitely be back next time I’m in town.

Garvan’s has never disappointed over the years, Sadly our recent visit was a late afternoon on a tuesday. We waited quite a while to be acknowledged and finally seated after being told we had no reservations and tuesdays were very busy and we were lucky to get a table. There was no one there, all tables in the pub were empty. We felt invisible as staff continued to ignore us. We should have left but family were visiting and intrigued by the building.
The food was fantastic! Kudos to the chef! And it was the only thing served quickly.
There was plenty of staff mulling around but we felt unwelcomed throughout.
I’m sure it was just an off night for staff but a nod, a smile, a hello or someone will be with you shortly would have made a world of difference.

A fun find, well off the beaten path in New Paltz. Not far away, maybe 10 min. But a world away as far as seclusion and quiet. Food was terrific. Ambience is upscale Irish dining, though the food was broader range than that if I recall. There's a bar, but classy not crazy. And meet the gracious, adorable Garvan and his wife who are often there.

Honestly, I was quite disappointed. I had made reservations 3 weeks in advance as this was my partner's birthday dinner, so we were really looking forward to it. Upon arrival, the host said he couldn't find my reservation, even though I had the confirmation email. He was a little rude in his response, telling me I need to confirm it going forward (apparently an email confirmation doesn't count). Since it wasn't busy, we were able to be seated promptly. Our server took our food order, and came back only one more time to check on us, but otherwise ignored us and was not at all pleasant. The poor service put a damper on the evening. While the food was good, I would likely not recommend this establishment nor return in the future.

So much to love about this place. The building itself is so charming! The first floor reflects the Hugenots, while the second floor is more colonial. There is a busy pub on the first floor, but I prefer sitting in one of the smaller, quieter rooms upstairs. The street corn carrots are without question the best carrots I have ever eaten. Honestly, I never knew carrots could taste so good. The leek and potato soup, scallops, and short ribs are also recommended. Service was excellent!

Great place, I will go there again the next time I am in the area. Allow for time to enjoy a drink in the bar before dinner. Great service, food and so much more.

Wonderful establishment with tasty food, unique atmosphere, and friendly staff (shoutout to Katrina!). We had the short ribs, scallops, and the street carrots - all done incredibly well. You can really feel the love in this place. I highly recommend.

Don't bother going here unless you are local and well know by the owner and staff.

We were seated upon arrival (we had made a reservation and showed up on time), by a very nice man who guided to our table. We were seated next to a four-top that was continuously loud our entire visit, making it impossible to have a conversation.

Every step in our visit took forever, especially since our server disappeared (after taking our order), or when visible, decided to consume her time with the local annuity guests.

The shrimp appetizer was excellent and so was the bread!!

My hummus appetizer was laughable - I've never had hummus that was this un-appetizing - it was floating in a sea of oil. The flat bread was very nice.

Both of our fish entrees (salmon for my guest and snapper for me) were way over-cooked. I was not provided a sharp knife and was perplexed how I was to cut and eat my lovely two pieces of Bok Choy with a butter knife?! The sauce that my entree and sides were plated with was so strong that I couldn't taste the Bok Choy or the fish. My guest's salmon was completely over-cooked and dried out, which was odd given she was asked about cooking duration while ordering.

We waited SO LONG after we stopped eating our entrees, we decided to leave without asking for coffee or dessert. We had to beg someone (not our server) for our bill.

Although our server was pleasant and trying to be helpful early in our time there, she completely disappeared for the remainder of our stay. If it wasn't for the young man pouring water and eliminating used tableware at other tables, we might still be waiting for assistance.
