Hidden gem in Chinatown. Great food, affordable, and friendly staffs. I will be coming back here next time I fly to NY

This place has the perfect name, because the6 visit aren't experiencedIt would have been nice to have been told that my orderworder take 15 minutes to prepare before I ordered it.They were out of the seafood dish I would have preferred (honestly, what kind of bush league place runs out of an entree?) so I ordered the spare ribswhich were very disappointing. It was mostly rice with a few leaves of bland, limp greens and a few ribs, which were chopped into little bite sized pieces. It was literally the most annoying way possible to eat them. Had they been whole I doubt that there were 3 ribs. There are far too many better places nearby to even think about this place. Avoid.

I was starving and came across this spot tucked away on Mott. You would easily miss it as it's not flashy. They specialise in Claypot rice, but truly and unfortunately missed the mark for me. But let me start with some pros: - Great price for portion! Most claypot dishes are under $10 - Lovely service, I felt well taken care of - They allow credit card payments - only a handful of spots in Chinatown do that so if you forget or don't have access to cash, you will be full after going to this place! - They get their tofu pudding from next door, it's silky and yummy Why I didn't like the Claypot rice: - After waiting for around 20 minutes, I knew they were making it fresh, so I was excited. But when it came, I was very disappointed - Didn't like that they paired it with a normal/salty soy sauce as opposed to sweet? There was no dimension to the dish this way in my opinion - The rice was completely burned at the bottom (it was black). As we all know, Claypot rice isn't supposed to be like this despite the crispy rice base - The steamed pork had some taste, but there was no preserved veggies taste at all. It was dry and salty overall - the rice overall was really dry and lacklustre in taste. I found myself looking around for more sauces while I was eating I'm giving it a 3 stars because I truly don't want any Chinatown businesses to fail, and this may just have been my personal experience or maybe I came on a bad day. If I had to solely rate my food today, it would have been 1.5 stars for me, and I grew up in Hong Kong so this dish is very important to me and I know what it takes to make an authentic Claypot rice. I do think they need to revise their recipe just based on the way it was cooked today as that's a huge no (with the burning) and take a look at what makes Claypot rice good and stand out. They have appetisers like skewers, as well as Claypot noodles which I didn't try so perhaps those would have been a better pick if you decide to go. Wishing them the best, truly! Update: I did order another Claypot rice to go for my boyfriend and the pork was much more tender and well cooked, with a strong presence of the preserved veggie. Rice was still burned though.

Just to warn people - I ordered for take out one time, and that's the last time I'll ever go. Chicken skewer was cold, clay pot rice is not even good... they give it to you with foil for take-out and the rice on the bottom is burnt taste - literal burnt taste. I work right across the street - there's no reason why the chicken skewer is cold when I was there and you bring it up from downstairs kitchen. Beware of these other good reviews, they obviously don't know what good clay pot rice tastes like. If you want good clay pot rice, then it's King's Kitchen. For the better skewers, it's the street vendor by the grand street station. I had my hopes up because it's so close, but this place is no bueno.

They make these Chinese rice bowls called bo zhai fan. Traditionally these are made in clay pots with various meats and veggies on top. It's then steamed over fire to cook it. They make these in metal tin bowls so the burnt bottom of the rice is not as crispy as with the clay pot. However, for the price and amount, it is good. The taste is good too. Definitely put the sweet soy sauce on top. I got the combination which was Chinese and pork (i think) sausage with cauliflower. Cost around 7-8. Would recommend and come back. Btw , the clay pot one runs over 10. I believe around 14 right now.

I love clay pot rice so it’s great to find a place that specialises in it for a super affordable price! Got the combination clay pot with an egg as well as butternut squash and chicken skewers which I devoured before remembering to take a picture, I enjoyed everything and will try the chicken and mushroom next time. The staff was also super friendly.

I was excited to try out this new restaurant in Chinatown but unfortunately it fell short. We ordered a mui choi pork patty and chicken w/ mushroom rice but they gave us the wrong order. Both rice dishes were dry and didn't come with the special soy sauce that you pair with claypot rice. Sadly, both dishes didn't taste close to your traditional claypot rice. It felt more like a dry steamed rice with a slightly charred crust. However, it wasn't all bad. The portion sizes are decent, given that each dish only costs $7-$7.50. Additionally, the cashier/waiter was very welcoming and offered great service.

Super affordable and tasty clay pots. We got the sparerib and combo bowls to go and the rice was cooked just right. Would come back again

Excellent clay pot rice in Manhattan, Chinatown! They specialize in Cantonese style piping-hot, clay pot rice dishes with various toppings. They also have some side dishes like bok choy, veggies of the day, butter-curry fishballs, and garlic eggplant as well. The owner is extremely kind and friendly. Servings are generous, prices are low, and the food is great. Be sure to check them out!

Let me just say how FANTASTIC this place is! It was my first time in NYC visiting Chinatown and I felt a bit overwhelmed, anxious, and hungry. I was super indecisive of where to eat and I passed by this place and the server was greeting everyone wishing us a happy Saturday! I kept walking but decided to walk back and check it out. He explained what they serve here and I felt so comfortable I stayed and I did not regret it. When I tell you guys this is the BEST customer service I've ever had eating out, I mean it. He played my favorite artist for me and made great conversation. He recommended the "combonation" plate and it was delicious. 10/10 food and service. Definitely recommend!

Randomly bumped into this restaurant and loved it! It seems like they just opened, and the shop is a little small (space for possibly three small groups). The prices were extremely reasonable and the portion size was great for the price. I was craving clay pot rice and thought it was quite tasty. The chicken skewers were also surprisingly good! Will definitely come back if I'm in the area.

First time trying this place because everywhere is so packed and the waiter seems been trying so hard to get some customers by asking "how are you doing?" "Want to come in and try our food"? We were told that they were just opened three weeks ago and the menu is limited. I was definitely craving for clay pot rice because the last time I ate was like years ago and just the thought of the crispy rice resulted from clay pot makes my mouth watering! The food definitely did not disappoint and I was also genuinely surprised by how sweet and tasty the cabbage is! One suggestion would be to be quicker in terms of the food making, especially since we are the only people there. Nevertheless, it is very reasonable priced, great service, and tasty food! Will come back again!
