Definitely not authentic Taiwanese food although they aren't trying to be (stated multiple times on their website). But this place was pretty good! Kind of a fun twist on traditional Taiwanese foods. - Taiwanese sausage fried rice - a pretty solid dish although nothing super special to write home about. Sausage as expected, lots of egg, and pretty salty. - Hakka stir fry - good wok hei flavor and quite spicy, especially those peppers! Nice combo of celery, pork, and tofu. - pea shoots - honestly I thought these weren't salty enough (which I can't believe I'm saying about a restaurant! Usually things are too salty if anything). Otherwise the flavor was good - seaweed fries - best thing we got! I highly recommend! The kewpie mayo sauce is a great complement to the salty umami flavor of the sesame and seaweed. Yum! Overall pretty good meal, although if you're going during peak hours, be prepared for a wait!

Glad I finally got to try 886! There is some seating inside and outside. One restroom in the back. The chairs a lil comfortable bc they're stools. Workers are all super nice. They do get busy and there might be a wait! Dishes here are meant to be family style. But it is hard to share with small tables. Not meant for big groups imo , not too big of space inside. Got the lychee soju and guava soju and tbh I'd pass on it. It was just okay, tasted more like juice tbh. Scallion pancake beef wrap- it was just okay tbh. The pancake is on the thicker side and nothing special and wasn't a fan of the slaw inside. I wish I got the plain scallion pancake. Taiwanese sausage fried rice was sooo good! So flavorful and a good amount of sausage! Wish the sausage was cut up into smaller pieces so you get a bite with every bite. A little on the pricier side for the amount given. But it was my fave dish! The notorious TFC was so good! It's humongous, enough to share with 2-4 people. Super juicy and the flavorful. I definitely will be coming back again!

This must be the most unauthentic Taiwanese food I have ever eaten in the entire Western United States!Only Taiwanese beer is real!I know it might change a little for American tastes! Very disappointed!

Loved this place! They were very accomodating for our large group of 9. 10/10 service. Me and a friend did the bad idea challenge. We did not finish in time, but our server gave us the consolation prize of sake bombs anyway. SO GOOD! We ordered a lot of food! The table favorite was the Scallion Pancake Beef Wraps.

As a Taiwanese, I agree with the reviews that say it's not authentic in that the sauces they used are so catered toward western palates. I'm not gonna hate and rate them horribly for that as they're in NYC and it's better to craft a taste more suitable for the general diverse public than to stick to the roots but that's that. I think the dishes all use the correct ingredients but the sauces they pair it with, absolutely awful. Way too sweet. Not spicy enough. Not herbal enough. Etc, etc. Overall, I still think it's a good place, especially if you are introducing someone to Taiwanese for the first time. What my friend and I ordered: Taiwanese sausage fried rice - pretty damn good and authentic with shacha sauce, a bit too salty though. No complaints otherwise Crispy silken tofu - aka the non-smelly version of stinky tofu. Tofu was fried perfectly and great but the damn sauce they paired it with was too sweet and not enough spice kick. Legit wished they paired it with the traditional stinky tofu sauce, would have been amazing. Popcorn chicken - not worth, not the right batter, flavor, and worst of all...the sauce. Three cup chicken - decent, would be acceptable to most ppl but not herbal enough for me. Feel like it's toned down. Beef scallion wrap - my lord...If there's one dish that they shouldn't mess up it's this one! They fucking added mayo to this?!? The fuck. All the ingredients used were fine and great but how the fuck you gonna add mayo to this. Absolutely abomination and probably my biggest gripe. Overall decent spot for those being introduced to Taiwanese food.

Food was good, service was not. I made a reservation ahead of time and got a text saying the table was ready early so we rushed to get there before they gave our table away only to get there and not have a table. After waiting for 10 minutes We were told we would have to wait 30 more minutes or could go to an outside bubble table (not what we reserved) which didn't have heating that was working. The food was good but I don't know if I would go back to deal with the service. Also the water was yucky

Fun place with a group of friends to hang, but the food is not good enough to return a second time.

There are some really delicious dishes here, but that is no excuse for the terrible seating they give you when your party is over 4 ppl. Literally upside down buckets its terrible worst seat ive had in the past 10 yrs.

Dishes are somewhat bland. Beef noodle soup didn't really have a lot of flavor. Beef scallion pancake was good but a bit doughy. Waiters are pretty fast though. Didn't try the drinks but they look fun and creative (sake bombs!). The tables remind you of the tiny short tables you'd see at a night market in Taipei so it's decently authentic vibes.

I really enjoyed my visit to 886, which has been on my list for a while! The Notorious TFC was a standout dish. The fried chicken was very juicy and generously sized. The slaw in the sandwich had a really refreshing slaw. The beef noodle soup was pretty good, although I think the broth was a bit too thick. The service was fast and I liked that the restaurant had a lot of cute Taiwanese decor. I would like to come back to try their drinks, which sound really good.

Food was quite greasy and oil seemed to be the primary flavor. Got the steak and eggs which was mediocre at best. Friends got sake bombs which were yummy. Service was friendly but definitely overworked and had to wait long periods of times for simple requests and getting the check. Little noisy and very cramped but cool vibes with the red neon lighting.

During my recent visit to 886, a Taiwanese restaurant in New York, I was immediately taken by its nostalgic, old-school Taiwanese decor. However, I found the music selection a bit off-track from the classic Taiwanese tunes, which, in my opinion, could enhance the overall ambiance if improved. On the culinary front, the main dishes were impressive. The Lo ba Ben (滷肉飯) was exceptional, authentically mirroring the flavors of Taiwan. Unfortunately, the crispy tofu was slightly overdone, leading to a darker hue than preferred, though it was served with a unique sauce that was delightful despite not being traditional. The dish labeled as 'kimchi' was more akin to the radish slices typically served with sushi, diverging from what one might expect. The oyster omelet was enjoyable, yet the accompanying sauce deviated from the special soy sauce commonly found in Taiwan. While I acknowledge the challenges of replicating Taiwanese cuisine in New York, these are my honest observations. Despite some areas for improvement, I wholeheartedly recommend trying the Lo ba Ben (滷肉飯) for a taste of Taiwan in the heart of New York.Vegetarian options: Crispy tofu is good for vegetarian
