Lovely restaurant near 59 East 59 Theater. Excellent service and delicious lemon sole.

Never coming back here again. Overpriced and extremely mediocre food and terrible service. I got a $35 burger that came in a brioche bun that was clearly store-bought, and with a single piece of bitter and old lettuce. It looked and tasted like a $5 burger you can get from a corner deli. It also took the waiter 10+ minutes to get my order despite the restaurant being half-empty at 6pm. The tables were lined with reams of PAPER with the restaurant’s logo printed cheaply on them. It was horrific. I expected MUCH more from a place that charges $40 for a salad.

Dinner time during the 2025 Super bowl
I ordered French onion soup for the starter and Branzino - Whole Mediterranean branzino for entree. The fish was fresh, tender and juicy. Luv it!
The dessert was pretty good and the service was excellent

I have been at Amaranth over many years and it is always the BEST choice for excellent food and service and it is one of the famous successful restaurants in this location upper east side.

Locals like this place for its convenience. The red lights and wreaths adds a tad of festivity.
SEATING IS RATHER SNUG SO BEWARE OF WHAT YOU SHARE.
THE risotto with crab and peas was so so. So so risotto is kind of sad. Even I could have stirred up a better concoction.
The cheeseburger is very good EXCEPT for the condiments they provide. Watery ketchup is a no no on such a tasty burger. Why skimp on quality condiments when the burger is made of quality beef. WHY RUIN IT!
Why not spend the extra bucks or make their own.
Now the pavlova. Great presentation but the meringue was tough. Does that mean the meringue was old? This time of year berries need a little sprucing up. A soaking in sugar water or maybe whip up a fruit puree with a smidgeon of sugar to give this some extra zip. Was it bad-no, was it so so -YES.
So if you are looking for a so so lunch then you found the place. Why as New Yorkers do we put up with so so, but maybe we are SO used to it.
The staff here is friendly and amiable.
Maybe, we come because of the staff.

Steak tartare and bloody maries were excellent. Spicy, savory, slightly tart, with high quality meat and the correct level of seasoning.
Service was fast, friendly.
Also highly enjoyed the mussels.

A perfect neighborhood restaurant for French food, dinner with friends and aperitive people watching. The service is consistently friendly, the clientele is low key higher class (and older age) and ambiance is parisian shabby chic.
Their truffle focaccia is the best and must try.
Kid-friendliness: It feels like a more mature people place, i woud not bring kids here not to disrupt the ambiance.

The service was disappointing, with our server (a male with a bun) being particularly rude and impolite. The location was decent, but the poor service outweighs any positives. I do not recommend.

A New York institution and one of my favorites!
The focaccia is the best in the world as well as the Jumbo shrimp with an incredible sauce.
Super service and attention!! I would return every time I come to New York.

I tried getting a drink at the bar during Bastille Day so my wife can use the restroom and was turned away. Their rule is that you have to be a sit down customer to use the restroom. Rude service, will make sure to never come here.
