It was a truly "lucked out" situation for us - while in a rush to see a show on Barrow street on a Thursday evening, we parked in a nearby garage and didn't know what we would get in terms of food, so just tried our luck with this eatery. Although its Yelp reviews are not top-notch, we were more than satisfied with our experience. It was apparent that sushi is their main stay, but we decided to order two Thai dishes and a Chinese appetizer. The flavor and taste were authentic enough, and the portions were so generous that we had trouble finishing them. It was such good value! In hindsight, we could have skipped the steamed dumplings - I did find their wrappers a bit too thick, but that didn't chip away any of my delight. Service was prompt and attentive. The decor was also very tasteful, although the artfully arranged lights made taking photos of the food a bit tricky :-).

This was an okay experience.Duck egg Tangerine Basil fried FOODThe food was pretty good. I think the tangerine chicken was the obvious better of the two dishes though I think it was a bit overly sweet and even though we asked for the dish to come spicier, don't think that was really done. Moreover, this DOES NOT hold up well. You really should finish the dish then and there, because it turns into a rock if you have leftovers (even after microwaving)The basil fried rice was as boring as you could get. Moreover, felt the vegetable version of the dish was just filled with frozen veggies.SERVICEThe service was okay - we came at a pretty early / awkard time around 4p for a mealAMBIANCEThe restaurant is pretty large and decently kept, though I felt the music was a bit loudOverall, don't really recommend this restaurant.

We came here for a late lunch at 2:30pm. Scallop tempura roll & sushi generation were fresh & good, but the eel avocado roll might've been left out too long. We also enjoyed the fresh ginger slices & hot green tea. Fairly priced. Attentive waiter.

Our absolute favorite spot for sushi! Amber is a laid back restaurant offering the most delicious sushi, with amazing appetizer options, delicious cocktails, and super pleasant servers! Amy, behind the bar, is a gem!!

I order take from Amber at least twice a month. The pad Thai is one of my favorites along with a few sushi rolls. I've eaten inside a few times and the atmosphere is great. Who doesn't love a full bar with tv's inside a sushi place!

I came here on a rainy Saturday night to order sushi/sashimi platter for two to go before they closed for the night. My order was processed fairly quickly in spite of cutting it close to closing time. The sushi and sashimi were good but I've had better for the price point but then again this is place is a little bit more about the ambiance than those places. I was surprised that salad/miso soup were not included, which is usually complimentary when you order a platter type menu item at most places. While I did order my food to go, I would say the ambiance of the place has a cute date spot vibe to it with a little bar and a dimly lit dining area. It's not cozy enough for a date but not really big enough for a birthday party. It's also in an area of the West Village that is not as NYU entrenched as say like McDougal is.

I just ordered take out and the fish did not look fresh. I tried the California tool. Awful. I threw out the order.

My second visit to Amber was even better than the first. Excellent service and food. A great menu with lots of choices. I was indulged with an Uni handroll that wasn't on the menu. Very special and appreciated.
