The Best Fusion Omakase Experience
I hope you guys remain a hidden jewel so we get access to your food regularly.
Barmiller delivers one of the most exceptional fusion omakase experiences I’ve ever had. Every course is thoughtfully crafted, blending traditional Japanese precision with bold, creative global flavors. The progression of dishes feels like a journey beautifully balanced between familiar comfort and inventive surprises.
The attention to detail is impeccable, from the presentation to the pacing of each course. The chef’s artistry shines through in every bite, and you can truly taste the passion behind the menu. The atmosphere complements the food perfectly: intimate, welcoming, and refined without being pretentious.
If you’re looking for a dining experience that goes beyond sushi and truly redefines what omakase can be, Barmiller is simply the best.

This restaurant made me question every life decision I've made. Without a doubt this is a quality establishment run by a team of celebrated cools. major positive aura points going on here. Smokey little fish meat, hunter gatherer type. The drink pairings had me on all fours.

Amazing food, served by amazing people. Flavors are on another level. Small dining area with only 8-9 seats, you feel very connected to the quality ingredients you are being served.

Celebrating my partner's birthday at Bar Miller was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we stepped into this intimate East Village gem, we knew we were in for something special.
We were the first to arrive and were seated at the short end of the L-shaped counter—easily the best spot in the house, since it’s the only one that offers a full view of what the chefs are preparing. Watching the care and precision that went into each dish made the omakase experience even more memorable.
We opted for the sake and wine pairings - because birthday celebrations mean go big. The pairings were thoughtfully selected and beautifully complemented each course. Every pour felt intentional, enhancing the flavor and feel of each bite.
Chef James was an absolute pleasure to talk to, and the whole team brought great energy to the evening—funny, warm, and clearly passionate about their craft. It felt less like a meal and more like being part of something special.
The nigiri was unreal. The house soy, the seasoning on the rice, the quality of the fish—every piece was dialed in and lit up all the right taste bud sensors.
Toward the end of the meal, I unfortunately discovered (for the first time in 40+ years!) that I’m allergic to mussels—which was a total bummer and not how I imagined finding that out. But even with that hiccup, the team handled everything with care, and it didn’t take away from the fact that this was an incredible dining experience.
Bar Miller is truly one-of-a-kind. Incredible food, genuine hospitality, and a vibe that makes you want to return the moment you leave. We'll definitely be back—but at least next time, I'll have something to say about any allergies!

It was hard to find the doorway to Bar Miller, but we were warmly welcomed once we found our way in. This omakase experience is like being in someone’s apartment—chatty, conversational, friendly. The food is inventive, with interesting flavor profiles (lots of pickled dishes, fruits, smoked sauces). The fish is top quality. If you have a question, ask the chef and he’ll talk you through, even how the dish came to be. The dessert—barley ice cream with maple and caviar—was perfect. A very sweet way to spend 2 hours!

We had a warm and welcoming delicious omakase experience yet again! We have loved this group from Rosella to Bar Miller and its predecessor Mayanoki. We are always amazed by the qualify of the fish, the creativity of the dishes, the sustainability approach, and of course the great service. Love love love this group!

Incredible meal which proved the value of committing to a concept. Bar Miller serves a “Local” omakase, prioritizing locally grown and made ingredients such as rice from New York, Miso from Connecticut, and New Jersey Bluefin tuna.
Having dined at a number of Omakase restaurants at a similar price point, I can say with confidence that Bar Miller is operating on another level in terms of creativity and hospitality (with taste at or exceeding that of peer restaurants).
My fiance and I had an unforgettable meal and are looking forward to trying their a la carte concept: Rosella.

This place is incredible! My Japanese mother-in-law (with very high standards for sushi/japanese cuisine) claimed it was the best meal she's had outside of Japan in her lifetime. An intimate experience, with highly personable chefs and great ambiance. An absolute gem and so worthy of all it's recent success!

My husband and I got very lucky to be the only two patrons for the 8:30 seating last night after a full 6:00 seating. Cooper, James, and Gus truly gave us a 10/10 experience. The food was incredible, as was the wine & sake paring. It was such a special experience and we both rate it in the top 5 meals we’ve ever had (and our favorite omakase we’ve ever done). We absolutely loved the dedication to locally sourced ingredients. We will be back!!

What a wonderful experience we had at Bar Miller! This is a meal that pushes the boundaries of what omakase can be, all while maintaining a respect for the environment. The creativity shines through in every dish - we had wagyu from Connecticut, bluefish from Montauk, along with more traditional bites such as raw bass, shrimp and trout, all served (deliciously) on rice sourced locally from New York.
Chef James told us, "Our goal with each bite is to make you forget the previous bite," and it absolutely worked.
I've been to and loved many traditional omakase restaurants in the city - Sushi Nakazawa, Omakase Room by Mitsu. This may be a different experience, but no less phenomenal - intimate, relaxed, and very New York.
P.S. Don't sleep on the mazemen, which is a menu add-on! It's not "needed" - the omakase is wonderfully paced and very filling, but we ordered it anyways thinking we could take any leftovers home and ended up eating it all in three minutes.
