We love this place. Have tried a few other nearby steakhouses (stk, sparks, Ben & jacks) but Benjamin is the best! The service is fantastic- Jony took excellent care of us. Wine list is vast, like 18 pages long. Prices aren't cheap, but portions are sizable. For example, the colossal shrimp are really colossal. The porterhouse steak can't be beat. And the house sauce is absolutely lovely. Although we barely had any room for dessert, we finished the lava cake and the creme Brule.

Above average steaks in a tight and dimly lit restaurant. Dined here during the last week of NYC Restaurant Week, and boy was dinner service jammed packed! Every table was filled, they even had small tables on the walkway, which I found kind of odd, but real estate in nyc is tough! The interior gives the old steakhouse dark vibes if you’re into that. The sirloin and rib eye we ordered from the restaurant week menu was juicy on the inside and nice and charred on the outside, but definitely heavy on the butter. Sides were typical. Old fashioned drink was done well and not too overly sweet like some places make them. There’s also an extensive wine list if you care to fancy. All in all, a decent steakhouse in midtown Manhattan!

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Only reason for not 5 stars across the board is that it felt a bit fast, not rushed, just fast. It wasn't a problem for our group as we had people who probably appreciated being able to get to bed, but it felt like it's a thing restaurants are doing now - maybe to increase turnover of tables, maybe the waiter was just reading our vibe and moving fast cuz we seemed to be OK w/ it.

Fabulous waiters and service. One busboy in particular unfortunately was bad at serving and very noisy at clearing.

The steak, wine, asparagus, and lobster Mac n cheese were all too notch. I actually had a dream about it last night it was that good.

The service was very slow to come to our table for a nice steakhouse. The server must have had too many tables or sat too soon. We waited quite awhile to order drinks. When the drinks did come, one was wrong and neither martini was cold. The table was so close to other tables servers could barely get food to other tables without hitting our chairs. Once settled, the server did catch up and the food was pretty good. When choosing a steakhouse next time, I would consider others.

The porterhouse was great, but the lamb chops smelled old and weren't cooked all the way through.

Benjamin Steakhouse is extremely well known, so we decided to give it a try. We were visiting from Montreal and, unfortunately, left very disappointed.

The ribeye was excessively oily and greasy — to the point where I couldn’t finish it. It was also extremely large, but not tender at all, just overwhelmingly fatty and heavy. It was honestly unpleasant to eat. The fries and mashed potatoes were good, but the portions were massive and felt more about quantity than quality.

While the service was impeccable and very professional, the food itself lacked refinement. For such a reputed steakhouse, we expected much better execution and balance.

Can't go wrong with the combo of bacon/porterhouse/creamed spinach/potatoes.

This restaurant came highly recommended to me when I was asking for suggestions of where to dine on my birthday. I was specifically told that the service was phenomenal and they would treat me so well and make my birthday special.
What I experienced was very much not that and it made me upset to realise that in the future I should not take restaurant suggestions from people who aren't Black because not everybody gets the same level of service.
I thought it was bizarre that we were suggested to wait in the lobby (around the corner and out of sight) instead of at the bar after we had previously been told to wait at the bar. It felt like we were being ushered aside. After forgetting our table for a half an hour (a mishap that made us late for our post-dinner plans) we were showed to a table in the middle of a crowded walkway-- someone actually pushed in my friend's chair to walk by. It was a very loud restaurant and we couldn't hear ourselves speak. To be clear, I did not mind waiting the half hour-- I understand mistakes happen-- but how you own up to and rectify a mistake makes a huge difference.
Our waiter was not welcoming. Did not introduce himself. Did not apologize for the earlier mistake or inquire as to how they could rectify it. Did not present the wine bottle to me after I ordered it (Common curtesy in proper wine service.) Served my friend first when the steak and appetizers came and just overall did not go out of their way to make me feel special on my birthday. I felt like they were trying to humble me.
For such a high end (at least price wise) establishment, I was surprised to find that there were a few TVs in the restaurant. They also don't crumb tables and just put a clean napkin over the dirty spots on the table before dessert??
The restaurant staff did sing happy birthday to me; the candle blew out prematurely and nobody came to relight it for me so that I could make a wish (things I have done before as a sever at much less fancy establishments).
At the end of the night they comped our bottle of wine without a word of apology for the earlier mistake. Dropped the check immediately and snatched it back after we paid and left (what was a generous and entirely undeserved) tip. WHILE WE WERE STILL SEATED AT THE TABLE. As a former server I was appalled at the way we were treated on what was marked down as a special occasion no less.

For what it's worth (very little to me) the food was delicious. The bread service was solid, the Benjamin salad was phenomenal and the lambchops were wonderfully cooked, if not particularly flavorful. Delicious food is a dime a dozen in New York City and can be found at much more affordable prices. I will never come back to this restaurant purely because the service was NOT reflected in the price of the check and I suggest other people find better places to get an overpriced meal.

The porterhouse was delectable. It was incredibly tender and juicy. The sizzle sounded to die for honestly and a dish I would highly recommend. I wish I could eat it more often! Highly recommend this restaurant, professional, tasty, and the ambience is to die for.
