Actually had a great BEC here and the kids enjoyed an order of bacon and pancakes (3 big pancakes for $10.95). The Bacon egg and cheese was $7. Place is clean and bright and the staff was too the point and efficient. Be warned though, the two people ahead of us were complaining about price discrepancies which I remember was a problem when I use to work in the area. Otherwise, no complaints.

Food is good and much better than I expected. The Cafe 53 staff are super friends and helpful. I didn't give it 5-Star rating since it's not an upscale restaurant, but for what you get the place is excellent. Now, this is my first time eating here so I can't speak for the rest of time.

My friend and I stopped there for lunch our first day in the city because I had eaten there on a previous trip. What's great is that you have such variety to choose from to eat there at one of their clean, quiet tables or take out whatever you want. I had the fresh salad bar and my friend had Asian food prepared exactly the way she wanted it. We picked our drinks, paid (under $15 per person), and relaxed at a table. I love salt bagels, so twice I went back for a fresh toasted salt bagel with butter and fresh coffee (under $8), then our last night I had a hot pastrami on rye that was so big I could hardly finish it ($12 with beverage). I will frequent this place on every future trip to NYC!

This restaurant is located on 53rd St. & between 6th/7th, a couple of blocks down from MoMA. You will find all options from deli, salad, hamburger, panini, padta, to two big hot and cold food stands priced per weight. You can even find Korean gimbab & japchae on the stand. We ended up going twice to this cafe for a coffee after visiting MoMA. The coffee was made fresh when ordered, it tasted very good. It is a fast turning restaurant during lunch hour in a busy district of NYC.

I was rudely treated by the service worker who makes smoothies - so much so I waited to speak with the female manager. When I told her she should speak with the worker and that type of treatment shouldn’t be tolerated she began yelling at me telling me in front of the entire establishment it was my choice to be there or not. Add to the negative vibes, lack of customer service, the fact that the food is poor and most of it spoiled, avoid Cafe 53 like the plague. Unfortunately it must be a tourist trap but for NY natives the establishment is garbage.

We purchased a panini on the go from this deli while visiting NYC. $15 for a panini that was plenty for my husband and I to share. Lots of meat & cheese, with just the right amount of lettuce and tomato. We were impressed with the sandwich, especially since they are premade, and yet still very fresh and delicious. They had a huge selection, every kind of sandwich you can imagine. The atmosphere was clean and well maintained. Try it if you’re in NYC.

Food was ok but service was atrocious. They messed up my smoothie (forgot OJ) then when I asked for some they squeezed me a fresh cup. We didn't have time to have them remake the smoothie right, so the owner forced us to pay for the juice too, which was their mistake in the first place. Language barriers and cultural norms were the main source or conflict, but that could have been resolved with a small sliver of customer service. We received zero.

Borderline and unpleasant staff. They decided to close 1 hour early and practically kicked us out. The food goes by weight and the scale is rigged. My boyfriend lost a tooth trying to eat his hard rice. I don't recommend them even to my worst enemy.

In addition to the expensive food, you can’t sit there after lunch to take a break. The supposed owner will come to you directly and ask you to get out as soon as you are done eating.

Been in NY 4 days and only found this little gem round the corner from our hotel last night.Breakfast cooked fresh to order and really good quality at a good price too.Only wish we'd found the place sooner into our visit.

Great clean cafe with groceries and prepared food. I found Kimbap (rolls wrapped in seaweed) and vegetables prepared in Korean style. They also had all kinds of deli sandwiches, roasted turkey breast, mash potatoes and a soup bar! It's a cafe run by a Korean. First of all, it's clean and the food tastes good!
