Best sing along bar in NYC.
Was fun! Great music and vibe. The staff cares about the experience and its guests... just a bit annoying the whole group can't sit til all arrive.. but I totally get why :)
You have to attend this place, live music at its best in a basement location.
Always fun! Great club
This place is unique! It’s completely unpretentious and inclusive! A guaranteed, rockin good time, Cafe Wha Is absolutely beloved by my local friends and out of towners alike. This basement night club has the rock history - Jimmy Hendricks and Janis Joplin played here! It is intimate - you are steps away from Cafe Wha House Band - the best damn band NYC! The whole place rocks out and the people are dancing in the aisles.
I love the band so much I booked them for my wedding and yeah, they were expensive but we decided to compromise on everything else…and it was amazing!!!
If you love 120 decibels and pop songs this is the place for you. Otherwise, avoid
We love Cafe Wha?! Every time we pass through NY (our former home,) we try to visit. Once again had the best time last night. The band is so unbelievably talented and the place was rockin'! It is THE place I recommend to all my music-loving friends when they come to NY. In addition to the amazing Cafe Wha band, everyone who works there is amazing (and how they manage to get through the dancing bodies without spilling is quite a miracle.)
Historic venue, quite good pub food
This is the first time that I went to this historic place however this female staff wants to disrespect one of my friend's family that they need to upgrade for a premium seat and that's not fair and it cost $251-$375 to bring 5 to 10 people in each table. And also the basement was very hot because it doesn't have no AC, no WiFi, and last but not least no cell service whatsoever in other words what if something is going to happen in case of an emergency.
However the performance was nice but not the staffs
D-
I was blown away by the talent performing at Cafe Wha! 7 days a week!

This place is a piece of history
Honestly one of the strangest experiences I've ever had. Usury comes to mind, fraud also, so does fire hazard. Expect to pay three different ways for your ticket, first you pay online, which makes it seem like you're buying a seat, but you're simply paying to not wait in line, and to ensure that you get to walk in the door and pay more. You definitely aren't buying a seat, because they may make you stand, and the two square inches of room they let you squeeze into could hardly be called a seat.
Then there is a 20 dollar per person music charge added to your bill, as well as a two item minimum, when the quality of food and drink is very low, and the prices are very steep.
People claim that it's worth it to be able to see the high quality music. I do not know who these people are. Pitchy, hokey, offkilter, you can hear higher quality music in most public parks in the city on any given evening, I know not what these tourists do.
Go if you have more money than taste, that seems to be the crowd. No shortage of that though in this city.
I'd like to stress again that the music is low quality.
Why is this place so aggressively tacky?
Awesome experience!! It’s a must when visiting New York! I recommend to visit when the house band is playing, they are just fabulous! 100/10
My favourite place in NYC, hands down. I go there whenever possible and have fun each time
