We went to the Carnegie Deli on Sunday before a matinee in the area. The place was very busy. I went to check in for our 12:30 reservation and was rebuked by the host because it was 12:20 and he told me he was not working on 12:30 reservations yet. He then yelled at me to “GO” and get out of the restaurant. I checked in again at 12:30 and we were put in inside the restaurant in a line where we waited to be seated. Everyone else we dealt with was nice and professional. Our meal was excellent. Other than being yelled at by the host this was a very pleasant experience.

Food was great. Servers were awesome. Just a warning though. If you make a reservation on this app, Open Table, they don't have a limit to the number of people making reservations. We found out when we got there that there were a lot of other people who had a reservation at the same time that we did. We decided to wait and it took about 30 mins. We went on a Sunday morning at 11 AM. Oh and you have to wait outside.

Very bad. We made a noon reservation. The restaurant said that its reservations system didn't work and all reservations were for noon. So we had to wait a while and then we finally left.

We eat here for breakfast everytime we visit New York. The food is great, particularly the eggs Benedict, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It's a great New York experience.

Made this reservation. Arrived at 11:25. A line outside of at least 30 people. Told by someone in the restaurant that we still needed to wait at least 1 hour. Then why to allow for reservations. Went somewhere else. This place should be taken out of OpenTable!

Line out the door for reservations but the 2 managers (I think our server said were Nick and Tanesh (sp?)) took control of the door and organized it really quickly. Being in the business I was impressed! Got us seated very quickly. Server, Sebastian, was quick and friendly. Foid came out fast and was delicious. Had the caramel french toast and coffee. Was clean and had a good vibe. Would definitely go back!

Booked a table for 10am. Arrived at 9.55 and was not seated until 10.30 having being made to queue not once but twice. Chaotic and unorganised. What's the point in reservations if they seat walks ins before. Rude front of house. Dirty sticky menus. Crowded and uncomfortable environment to eat in. Food was ok, nothing special but big portions. Funky smell to the place. Servers hovering over you to get you out the door. Felt like you were being rushed to eat. Do not recommend. The only place we are in NYC that I wouldn't recommend.

Loved it!!! Would definitely go back again. The pastrami was fantastic and we asked for lean. I've never had such lean and delicious pastrami. Loved the lentil soup.

The food was just ok. The Avocado toast came on a cold piece of untoasted bread with guacamole and a cold poached egg on top. Not good. Need better bread and ingredients.
We loved Carnegie Diner and Cafe (not related to Carnegie Deli)! We ate there three times during our five day trip to NY three times for breakfast. All three times were great. Number one suggestion is MAKE A RESERVATION! The lines is very long. A reservation gets you into another of people with reservations. On average we waited about 15 minutes past our reservation time but much better than the no reservation line. Other reasons we liked Carnegie Dinner: Food was amazing! Big portions, warm food was warm, cold food was cold. It eas also super tasty. Over our three visits we ate three different kinds of omelets, (all very good), Greek yogurt and berries, and pancakes. Service was amazing! The guy at the door was great in trying to keep people waiting in he lines calm. He had a great system going. The waiter who served us on the first day was probably one of the best we've ever had. I wanted to alter an omelet and he convinced me to leave it as is and brought me a side of lemon to accompany it. He was absolutely correct! When a server tells you not to change something, listen. The omelet (protein omelet)was so good I ordered it again the next day. When we arrived the next day he remembered me and gave me a cup of coffee to drink while we waited in line. I can't say enough about how great he was. We are going to miss eating there when we head home. You can't go wrong eating there. Go and remember to make your reservations.
