Very kind staff. Food delicious. Arrived restaurant quiet. Then holiday revelers arrived and the joy was infectious.
We had a great time food was excellent!! Will definitely come back!! My favorite was orange Beef
After an exhilarating Broadway show, we made our way to China River, our go-to Chinese restaurant conveniently located across the street from the venues and just a short walk from the InterContinental Hotel where we stay. Despite being close to closing time, the warm staff welcomed us for dine-in or takeout—now that’s what I call exceptional customer service! We decided to get takeout and as always it was fresh, hot, and delectable. China River is a beloved staple for us every time we visit—bring your family along, and enjoy the exquisite service and food.

We were in the theatre district between two shows and were in the mood for Chinese! This spot was perfect! The food was amazing and the service too! We like the quiet atmosphere so we could talk about the show we had just seen so it was exactly what we were looking for! Thank you!
They had dishes on the menu that i never heard of before. But everything we ordered was hot and tasty. would definitely go back again
I stayed a while, around 8pm to 9pm, with a meal and a pot of tea while I read a book. They didn't charge me for the tea! I asked for a refill of hot water when it got cold. Very nice experience. Also, they have clean bathrooms in the back.

You'll notice right away how well they treat everyone. The strong feedback made me check out this restaurant. We took the sharing approach with our food selection. Staff members demonstrated genuine warmth. China River has gained our repeated visits.

We decided on two appetizers and three entrees for the table. The soup dumplings were slightly smaller than what I am used to but they released a tidal wave of flavor when bitten. They were excellent. My oldest son asked for something called steam fried buns with condensed milk. This turned out to be three small steamed buns and three small fried ones. He devoured the steamed before I could get near them. I tried half a fried bun. It was fine. It was not bad. It was the least exciting thing I ate that evening. My wife ordered chow fun. My younger son ordered braised beef noodle soup but asked for it mild since the menu had marked it with the little flame of warning. I ordered spicy crispy shredded beef. I think the waitress understood his request by applying it to my order as well. That was probably for the best. I would have enjoyed more fire but in its mild state the boys could try it too. It was the table's clear favorite. The beef was tender and somehow also crispy. It was not stringy. It was packed with flavor. It was wonderful. The braised beef noodle soup was another triumph. The broth was deep and seasoned. The noodles seemed to have been made by human hands that very morning. The beef was braised until tender. My wife's chow fun was also excellent, but it suffered the fate of coming in third place in a race full of Olympians. On another night it would have been a contender for gold. We also discovered winter melon tea. Winter melon is not a melon but a gourd. Science is full of lies like that. Regardless, the tea was exquisite. My youngest son said it was the best tea of his life. He is thirteen. He has not seen much of life. But he may be right. Once the food came, the service vanished like a magician's rabbit. No refills, no questions, no appearances. This would have been understandable if the restaurant were packed, but it was nearly empty. I had to hunt down our waitress for the check. Be aware that an 18 percent gratuity is automatically included.
It was FINE. Not great, not terrible. Fine.
I get the price was more expensive being in Times Square. The food was cooked fine and they added rice on for an extra two bucks for dishes that should have rice. So it was annoying. The music was terrible. And loud.
Happy to get Chinese food. Could be better for the price and local.
Womp womp.

Stopped into China River on a whim before my play. Ordered the mini pork soup dumplings and vegetarian spring rolls. The spring rolls were overly doughy (though nicely crisp) with a slightly acidic sweet and sour sauce, but the dumplings were outstanding — worth coming back for alone. Service was quick, the food hit the spot, and the deceptively large venue includes bar seating and an extensive menu.

Great food! Get the pot where you choose 5-10 items It was delicious & order the large shrimp with the shrimp fried rice - again so delicious Never knew it was right in the middle of Broadway on 44th street You will love this place!!!
The food was good but not great. Our waiter was very nice and helpful but one of the servers spilled food on my wife and didn't bother to apologize. Chicken cachew was very salty. The appetizers were great and so was the shredded beef. Considering the competition in the area they need to step up their game.
Service was nonexistent. Tea was cold. No silverware. Had to ask for plates. Ribs were old. But close to theatres so that was good.
We love China River! It's delicious, so quick, and friendly service. If I have tickets for a show and I need to eat quickly (or even if I don't), China River is a great choice. We'll be back, again and again!
This little gem is very convenient to all theaters and affordable, delicious and easy! Not touristy at all - like so many in the area.
