This is the original and oldest Citarella, est. 1912. When this store went up, the street it was built on still had cobblestones. So that’s pretty extraordinary. For surviving so long and bringing a piece of New York’s past into the present, for that alone it merits 4 stars. Fairway next door is also the original and oldest Fairway, est. 1933.Citarella loses 1 star for its exorbitant pricing. Although it isn’t uniformly overpriced. On certain products it can be entirely within typical NYC pricing. You’re never getting below-market prices however, you’re never “scoring a deal” here.Excellent bakery section. Typical current NYC pricing so not a good price but not more overpriced than everybody else.

Gino at the fish counter has a serious attitude problem.... I've been shopping at citarella since I was a child and was fine paying an arm and a leg for high quality seafood and produce but expect a certain level of service.

This establishment, let's call it Scamrella, is best avoided. Despite the soups being satisfactory, the exorbitant prices raise serious concerns. It seems they perceive themselves as a high-end grocery, but it's time to mature – people aren't fooled by the overpriced facade. Disappointed with the unaffordability! CRINGE!

The best, freshest fish! Even hard to find varieties. Whole or already prepared.

This place is one of my favorite grocery stores! ? Citarella on the UWS ? has everything you need - fruit ?, vegetables ?, fresh meat ?, cheese ?, canned goods ?, cakes ?, drinks ?, snacks ?, salads ?, and so much more! Staff ?‍? is super friendly and professional and service is quick! ⏲️ It's so fun walking ? around and exploring ? the fully stacked shelves. I wish I came here more often!

We shopped (home delivery) for the first time - rather disappointing: rasberries were mostly rotten, they did not last even a day, two out of three cucumbers were not ok, and the cereal boxes were mostly torn on the corners (they looked really old). We will not buy again.

I spent close to $600 on Thanksgiving food and it was delivered 2 days early, which means the food will be 3 days old by the time Thanksgiving gets here. I tried calling customer service and was told "that is how we do it, I cannot assist you any further". Very disappointed.

Terrible situation. I purchased a soft cheese here which I consumed some of. It was the only thing I ate that no one else in my household ate that day, and it really tasted off. Several hours later, intensive GI symptoms started and launched me into a full 48 hours of food poisoning. When we called to inform the store and ask them to remove it from the shelves, we were told that the team "tried the cheese" and that it was fine, and also that my symptoms are "not really what food poisoning is like" and so it likely was something else. We were offered a $25 gift card for our troubles, which we declined. I would urge you to shop at another place where your health is taken into consideration - I certainly will not be back.

A wonderfully run store especially on hectic shopping days like Thanksgiving! Special shout out to Frank who was extremely friendly and helpful today. Thankful to have Citarella in the neighborhood!

I don't really do reviews when I visit grocery stores, but Citarella on the Upper West Side is the exception. They have the most amazing fish and seafood selection that you will ever find at a gourmet grocery store. The selection is exceptional. The meat and cheese options are also fantastic as well. If you're looking to prepare a special meal, this is the place to go. There is a reason why Citarella is always so crowded!

Make sure to count your shellfish before you leave. They will short you.

Worst work place in the world.

Who needs sweeteners in chicken salad? Give us healthy food without added sugar, dextrose, and honey! Not much chicken taste in this either.
