Essex Market has a lot of stalls to choose from but Eat Gai is one of our go-to favorite. We love ordering their Pineapple chicken. It's a Hat Yai Southern Thai Fried chicken with pineapple & ginger rice served in pineapple shell! The presentation is so cute. The chicken was crispy and juicy, seasoned to perfection with a blend of spices. The pineapple pieces in the ginger rice is a perfect complement, adding a burst of sweetness from the pineapple and a hint of ginger....
Ordered chicken rice (Thai hainanese). Chicken was white meat, deboned and sadly, on the dry side. Rice tasted good though personally, I'd like it with more punch in flavor. The dish came with 3 sauces, your dark sweet soy, a chili sauce and a green sauce that may resemble 'seafood sauce' from Thai street food (which was a bit fishy tasting). Came with a bowl of soup.
Chef Sakulclanuwat is my favorite "personality" at Essex Market. She is always sweet and welcoming. Her chicken wings are the best in New York. Flavor is out of this world. The green chili sauce is divine. I wish I could buy it in big bottles! You can tell she cooks with love and appreciation for the craft. Will always buy from her when I am there, prices and portions are excellent.
