Came here on a busy night, the hibachi tables were full so we had to be seated at a standard table which was understandable. Although it was busy there weren’t many workers there. That evening we had several issues with the service, however the food was actually decent besides the very cold vegetables. The steak was seasoned and tender, and the appetizers were delicious, which actually makes me consider going back for the hibachi tables (with hopes the service might be a little better). The waiters did bring several incorrect orders to our tables, we weren’t provided utensils either. After repeatedly attempting to get a waiters attention, he seemed to intentionally ignore us several times throughout the evening. They also forgot an extra rice, and when it was given the waiter handed the rice with his entire hand over, and touching the rice. The hibachi tables looked fun and seemed more attended to.

This place is a bit run down. Has a slight odor when you walk in. The food was okay, however I saw a mouse scurry across the dining room floor which killed the mood. Came at 9 something on a Wednesday and I understand the staff was trying to hurry up and close by 10:30. Ate fast and asked for a to go container all before then, but our server couldn’t hide her irritation. (Ended up not mattering because the mouse made me lose my appetite.) Another table she looked after also walked over to her asking for a beer they’d ordered a beer they ordered a while ago.

If you're looking for a noisy and hectic dinner environment, this is your place. And though the food is okay it's way overpriced. We both had a headache after we left. Too many better restaurants to choose from. I wouldn't recommend.

Amazing hibachi restaurant! The rice and noodles are a must have. Waiters were very kind and did not have to wait to be seated.

After Amber UWS closed/consolidated with Flame, we decided to give it a try. It was well worth the longer walk and we expect that it will be our new “go to” Asian restaurant on the UWS.

Be very careful here
They play games with reservation and are not well managed. I booked a birthday dinner for 20 people. They took my credit card as a holding space than they called me 2 weeks before and cancelled the reservation. Now they would have charged me if I canceled on them. They also did not offer different dates and were extremely rude on the phone. I would not trust this place for any event

One of our party was craving sushi after the American Museum of Natural History, this was a short walk and no weight for a table. The hibachi tables were screaming yelling and generally having a really fun time. It looked like. We took a quieter table for two in the back and the server was overwhelmed and inattentive, the table was jiggling and unstable, one of our drinks we ordered was not brought to the table and the veggie longevity noodles took much too long for our liking, fortunately it was absolutely delicious, so was the mushroom dumplings!!

Great hibachi spot. Easy proximity to the Museum of Natural History. I went within giving the restaurant 1 hour of notice and a party of 13, which included 4 children. They fully accommodated us. I would go back under similar circumstances because it's hard to seat so many people in most places.

Hibachi experience for a friend's birthday was really fun and lively, food was good if overly garlicy in some points. Knocking one star off because the noise of the gongs got to me at one point - but that's not really there fault

A lively hibachi experience to celebrate our friends’ elopement day. The flames, laughter, and cheers set the tone for the night. Every flip of the spatula felt like a toast to love and friendship. The food was amazing, the energy infectious, and sharing it all together made the evening feel like a true celebration of joy.

Stay away from this place if you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies. Flame is not safe.

I have Celiac disease and my symptoms include excruciating spasms that can make it difficult to walk. When I arrived at Flame, I had high hopes. I shared with the hostess that I had Celiac disease, and she assured me it would be safe to eat there. I then shared this with a very courteous waitress who informed me that I would be fine with the sushi as long as I avoided those that were fried or crispy. She even told me they had gf soy sauce. Feeling comfortable, I then put in my drink order. It did not take long for that impression to drastically change.

After about 15 minutes, a male waiter approached my table to take my food order. I selected a roll based on what the female waitress told me was safe. Again, I shared that I have Celiac disease. However, this time I was greeted with what seemed to be contempt. After telling him which roll I was interested in, I requested that he check with the kitchen to make sure it would be safe for me, but he refused. Instead he told me that I should just order something simple. Neither simplicity nor complexity were my issues. Honestly, at that point, I was just hungry. I didn’t care what I ate as long as I could confirm it to be safe. When I asked whether their chef could confirm what was safe, he said that he wasn’t going to go check with the chef for every dish I was considering. At that point, I asked him to cancel my drink order, and I left.

Before ordering, I always ask that they check that my order is safe because I am not a fan of being in pain. I’ve avoided some painful incidents this way, and I’m always grateful for the staff’s honesty and diligence, even when they tell me that the food isn’t safe for me. This was the first time I came across an establishment that flat out refused to do so.

A worthy successor to Amber on 70th Street and Columbus. Definitely recommend this cozy spot.
