This is the absolute best meal I've ever had. The atmosphere was charming, old fashion, and rustic. So cozy and beautiful. Very romantic vibe. The lamb was to die for. Filled with flavor and done perfectly. Unbelievably good

The bison tartare and curry snails were absolutely delicious! I wish they had more vegetable dishes/sides on the menu. Really lovely small place, service was excellent.

Just delightful. Daniel was so nice and understood my food intolerance and was very helpful. The foie and pate were wonderful.

Food was out of this world! Very small, intimate location that has a seasonal menu. My parents were extremely impressed by the menu, the food and the wine list! Daniel was our server and extremely helpful with all our questions. Great spot for special occasions and date

So great, I came twice in one week! had heard about the GF for a while but never got around to coming. Then I was in the neighborhood so my cousin and I came here. First, it is the most charming, old school NYC type of place you have been to in a while. It is clearly a labor of love, because they. Ain't be making money. It's like 8 tables/cozy but not cramped. Then the service is so friendly. Food--gorgeous. No other word. We had the pork belly appetizer, which was wonderful. We split the ravioli and beef...to die for. Got the pecan tart to take home for my husband and he loved it. Then I needed a place to meet friends, and I just came back here that Thursday. They also loved it. (We had a lovely Cab and the Pinot, btw). For appetizers, we had the cauliflower (fantastic), fois gras (5 star) and risotto (the only thing that wasn't good). Dinner was the ravioli for me again, the boar chop and beef. 5 stars all around. I'm already planning for when I go back.

This could be the best dinner I ever experienced. Four of us celebrating a special birthday and we all shared so I got to taste a lot of amazing dishes. Appetizers: Tongue, Pork Bellies, Foie Gras, Bison Tartar. All incredible but if I had to pick the Tongue was the star. All the meats were high quality, nice portions and flavorful but not overpowering seasoning. Perfect! The Main courses: Tournedos Rossini (filet mignon and Foie Gras) The steak done rare as we like it and tasty. Boar chop - son loved it and I did not get a chance to taste that as he finidhed it quickly. I stole a few gnocchi off his plate and that was awesome. Venison mas moist and tender - so good. My dish was off the charts perfection: The rabbit cassoulet. I love rabbit and cassoulet so I had to try this. The portion was generous, like a half of a rabbit and meaty. Moist and tender cooked perfectly. I shared with others and still had plenty. The beans and sauce underneath reminded me of Paris - superb (the meat was done separately so it was not soaked in the sauce, you really tasted the meat which I appreciated) - I can't believe how good everything was at this place - nothing was even just OK. Every dish was standout fantastic. The service was also perfect, the host/server was polite, friendly and informative. The courses came out as they should, everything hot. The bread at the table was fresh and served with a spicy warm oil to dip in and was replaced as we finished them off. We did not have to ask for anything - it just showed up at the right time. Birthday deserts were also superb. Chocolate mousse with fresh cream, Creme brulee with berries done right with the top carmelized, son had ice cream and I'm sure it was good. what a fantastic time out with family and a good friend. This will go down in the books in birthday history. I would highly recommend the restaurant as a splurge /special dinner location. I wish they were open for lunch so I could bring my business customers here.

In short, very cramped quarters with bizarre service quirks and overly salted/priced food. Run away. The night started off normally enough and was excited for some Winter game food at the seemingly popular restaurant. Took some time settling on a wine, because all the ones by glass retail for as much one glass costs at "The Gentleman" Farmer. The waiter insisted on over describing all the "tannins" and "bouquet" in each of them (I almost said they're all $12 dollar bottles of plunk, let's just cut to the chase, as trust me they'll all taste like a headache in 12 hours), but he was on a roll so I let him go through the charade. In any case, we got our drinks and took a bit more time to select a meal and were then told in another awkward exchange "tables are reserved for a maximum of 2 hours." At this point, full disclosure, my patience was running a little thin. When the reservation was made this policy wasn't disclosed and we'd taken 10 min to go through a lesson in Cheap Bottles 101. My demeanor also wasn't helped by the fact they've crammed 16 tables into an area made for half that size and I was getting bumped by everything and everyone in the restaurant. I quickly ordered the cauliflower app and venison stew, while my partner bravely ordered twice baked risotto and wagyu steak. After a fair amount of time and feeling as cramped as a Delta shuttle flight to Boston, our appetizers arrived. The cauliflower was undercooked (and no, not in a way that was intentionally done to preserve nutritional value- that went away when you doused it in oil, breadcrumbs, olives, anchovies and all the salt you could find in the kitchen). My partner's risotto was a weird chimichanga- esque take on the dish that was tasteless except for the over seasoning and fried wrapper. I tired to make an inquiry about the salt content in the food, trying to get some direction from the staff on whether I should go with the rabbit instead of venison based on over-seasoning, but was told in a helpful way, "it's all very good and based on your personal wants and experience" On to the mains, my meal looked and tasted like healthy choice frozen dinner (which really isn't doing much justice to the fine people at Healthy Choice - they try and are upfront about the cost and nutritional value of their meal). ~$30 at the Gentleman Farmer buys you 4 chunks of what I hope was venison, a reduction of beef stock and ceiling caulk and a few hard to find carrots. Any hope that the steak my partner had was good/could save the night went away when I saw her pile up an area of fat she had to cut away that I mistook for an additional side dish. The (fake news) wagyu beef for ~$40 managed to somehow miss on every front. At this point of the night, I wished I was actually on that Delta shuttle to Boston (since it was prob the same price as a meal here and the peanuts would be more fulfilling and less salty). I laughed at the dessert options (since as the waiter reminded us ,we had 15 min left on our table), asked for a check, closed my eyes, signed and vowed to never return to see the Farmer, who was no gentleman - at all. In fact stopped to get a slice of pizza on the walk back home. which was more satisfying then the previous 1 hour 55 min (I counted). Patrons; save your time, money and stomach. Restaurant ownership; take the vat of salt out of the kitchen, stop pre-freezing your "farm to table" meals and lose the smugness amongst the staff

Very small space, but packed a huge punch as far as flavor. Wait staff was absolutely amazing, very professional yet friendly. Food was presented beautifully, wine was impeccable. I’m full, happy, and impressed. Thank you for a great dinner to both front and back of house. I’m in the industry and thoroughly enjoyed the experience as well as atmosphere!

SUPERB! Tiny, so not much room, but intimate and so worth it! Daniel the host was warm and knowledgeable and made the evening, along with the superb food. Escargot, duck confit, lamb; you can't go wrong. a truly hidden gem downtown.

Such a charming little spot tucked away in the Lower East Side! We came here for Valentines Day. The ambiance was perfectly cozy with candlelit tables and no more than 20 people (inside the entire space). Given the holiday, they had a fixed menu. My favorite dish was the pecan pie, which was smoky, light, and not too sweet. Would highly recommend the Gentleman Farmer for a date night!

Quite expensive and portions were TINY. we spent over 170 dollars for two , and were left starving. Food was ok, but their main seasoning is salt, so not very special. Curried snails are over-rated. And absolutely true what others say, there seems to be a hurried mood. Like you have to order as soon as you get there, so not really able to enjoy the experience.

Great food, great staff, lovely dessert, very good salmon! Room to improve on the restaurant temperature: with the kitchen so close to the dinning area and the AC on Heat mode, it was like having dinner inside an Egyptian pyramid over the summer (i.e. they are especially hot over the summer).

Excellent food in an intimate room with just 20 tables which are very close together. The service is attentive and well presented. The only drawbacks were the very dark room - you could not see the excellent plates - and the surprisingly high noise level. If you know that in advance, the positives of the dining experience outweigh the negatives.

Great food and drink as always. Our server was very serious and almost seemed impatient with us, as we were talking instead of ordering right away. It wasn't a deal killer , but noticeable. That said this is one of my favorite boites in New York and the food never fails to delight. Order the venison bacon bourgignon. C'est magnifique!
